Translation — Tafsir

Word Meanings:

  • Sam'akum (سَمْعَكُمْ): Your hearing — the ability to perceive sounds.
  • Absarakum (أَبْصَارَكُمْ): Your sight — the ability to see.
  • Khatama (خَتَمَ): To seal or stamp — meaning to lock and close off completely, so that nothing can enter or exit.
  • Tasarifu (نُصَرِّفُ): We present and explain in various ways, turning the proofs and signs around so they may be understood from every angle.
  • Yasdifun (يَصْدِفُونَ): They turn away and retreat from the truth, refusing to accept it.

Explanation of the Verse:

O Messenger, say to these polytheists who deny the truth: "Tell me — if Allah were to take away your hearing, making you deaf; and take away your sight, making you blind; and seal your hearts so that you could no longer comprehend anything — what god other than Allah could possibly restore these blessings to you?"

The question is not merely rhetorical — it is a profound call to reflection. Every breath you take, every sound you hear, every image you see, every thought you process — all of these are gifts from Allah alone. No idol, no statue, no human power, no force in the universe can grant or restore these faculties except the One who created them in the first place.

Then Allah instructs His Prophet to observe: "See how We present the signs and proofs in various forms?" — We show you the wonders of creation, the precision of the universe, the revelation of the scriptures, the miracles of the messengers — all pointing to the same truth. Yet despite all this clarity, these people still turn away, refusing to reflect and learn.

A Call to Reflection and Gratitude:

Dear reader — pause for a moment. Close your eyes and imagine losing your sight forever. Imagine the silence of deafness. Imagine your heart unable to understand the simplest truth. Who could bring these back to you? Only Allah — the Most Merciful, the Most Compassionate.

This verse is an invitation to wake up from heedlessness. Your senses are not random accidents — they are divine loans, given to you for a purpose: to see the signs of Allah, to hear His words, and to understand His guidance. The One who gave you these gifts is the One who deserves your worship, your gratitude, and your obedience.

Do not be like those who turn away from clear signs. Be among those who reflect, who are grateful, and who respond to their Lord with love and submission. For the One who can take away can also give — and His mercy is greater than His wrath. Turn to Him before the door of return closes, and let every sight, every sound, and every heartbeat be a reminder of His infinite grace.

📜 Verse 44-48 — Al-An'am

So when they forgot that by which they had been reminded, We opened to them the doors of every [good] thing until, when they rejoiced in that which they were given, We seized them suddenly, and they were [then] in despair.
So the people that committed wrong were eliminated. And praise to Allah, Lord of the worlds.
Say, "Have you considered: if Allah should take away your hearing and your sight and set a seal upon your hearts, which deity other than Allah could bring them [back] to you?" Look how we diversify the verses; then they [still] turn away.
Say, "Have you considered: if the punishment of Allah should come to you unexpectedly or manifestly, will any be destroyed but the wrongdoing people?"
And We send not the messengers except as bringers of good tidings and warners. So whoever believes and reforms - there will be no fear concerning them, nor will they grieve.
