Translation — Tafsir
Word Meanings:
- Al-Yasa' (Elisha): A prophet sent to the Children of Israel after Prophet Ilyas (Elijah).
- Yunus (Jonah): The prophet known for his story with the whale; he is Yunus ibn Matta.
- Lut (Lot): The prophet sent to the people of Sodom; he was the nephew of Prophet Ibrahim (Abraham).
Tafsir (Explanation):
In this verse, Allah mentions four more of His chosen prophets—Isma'il (Ishmael), Al-Yasa' (Elisha), Yunus (Jonah), and Lut (Lot)—following the earlier mention of other prophets in the same context. Each of these noble messengers was guided by Allah to the path of truth and righteousness, and each was sent with a divine mission to their respective peoples.
Allah then states that He favored all of these prophets above the worlds—meaning above all people of their time and, in a broader sense, above all of creation in terms of their rank, honor, and the unique distinction of prophethood. This favor was not earned by their own effort alone but was a mercy and choice from Allah, who selects whom He wills for His message.
The mention of these prophets serves as a reminder of the unity of the divine message throughout history: all of them called to the worship of Allah alone, and all of them faced trials with patience and trust in their Lord. Their stories are a source of inspiration for believers, showing that Allah never leaves His servants without guidance and that He honors those who dedicate themselves wholly to Him.
Da'wah Reflection:
Beloved reader, when you look at the lives of these great prophets—Isma'il's unwavering submission to Allah's command, Al-Yasa's steadfastness in continuing the call of Ilyas, Yunus's profound repentance in the depths of darkness, and Lut's firmness against immorality despite being alone—you see a beautiful pattern: Allah's favor is not about worldly power or wealth, but about closeness to Him and sincerity in His service. This is the true honor that every believer should seek. Let these examples fill your heart with hope: no matter how difficult your circumstances, Allah's guidance is always within reach for those who turn to Him. And remember, the greatest favor of all is to be among those whom Allah loves and guides—a favor that is open to every sincere soul who follows the final messenger, Muhammad (peace be upon him), and lives by the Qur'an.
