Translation — Tafsir
Word Meanings:
- وَأُمْلِي لَهُمْ — "And I give them respite": I delay and postpone, giving them more time and extending their lives.
- إِنَّ كَيْدِي مَتِينٌ — "Indeed, My plan is firm": My strategy, punishment, and retribution against those who deny the truth are strong, decisive, and inescapable.
Explanation of the Verse:
In this profound verse, Allah addresses His Prophet ﷺ with a message of reassurance and divine justice. He says: "Leave Me with those who deny this Quran" — meaning, do not grieve over them, for their account is with Me, and I am fully capable of dealing with them.
Allah then reveals a stunning aspect of His wisdom: He grants these disbelievers respite. He gives them wealth, children, health, and long lives — not as a sign of His pleasure, but as a gradual drawing-in (*istidrāj*). They receive more blessings, yet they sink deeper into arrogance and transgression, unaware that every additional blessing is a rope lengthening until the moment of their fall. This is not kindness in the ultimate sense; it is a measured delay that increases their accountability and makes their punishment more severe.
The verse closes with a powerful declaration: "Indeed, My plan is firm." Allah's strategy against the people of disbelief is unbreakable. No one escapes His grasp, and no one can thwart His decree. The apparent success of the disbelievers is temporary; the firmness of Allah's plan is eternal.
A Da'wah Reflection:
This verse carries a profound lesson for every believer. When you see evil seemingly prospering, do not despair — for Allah's timing is perfect, and His justice is certain. The respite given to wrongdoers is not negligence; it is part of a divine plan beyond human comprehension. This should fill your heart with tranquility and trust in Allah. It also serves as a warning: do not be deceived by worldly success, for it may be a test. The believer's focus should be on obedience and sincerity, not on comparing worldly gains. Let this verse strengthen your faith, calm your heart, and remind you that the final victory belongs to the righteous, and the firm plan of Allah encompasses everything.
