Translation — Tafsir
Word Meanings:
- وَأُمْلِي لَهُمْ — "And I give them respite": I delay their punishment and prolong their time, giving them a temporary reprieve.
- إِنَّ كَيْدِي — "Indeed, My plan/scheme": This refers to Allah's taking hold of the wrongdoers and His method of dealing with them, which is called *kayd* because its outward appearance is kindness and benevolence, while its inner reality is ruin and abandonment.
- مَتِينٌ — "Mighty/strong": Firm, powerful, and unshakable — it cannot be repelled by any force or cunning.
Explanation of the Verse:
In this profound verse, Allah informs us about His dealings with those who reject His signs and persist in disbelief. He says that He grants them respite — He delays their punishment and gives them more time, allowing them to live their lives seemingly unpunished. This delay, however, is not a sign of neglect or weakness; rather, it is part of Allah's wise and mighty plan.
When the disbelievers see that no punishment befalls them quickly, they begin to assume that they will never be held accountable. This false sense of security causes them to sink deeper into their arrogance, disbelief, and transgression. They increase in their rebellion against Allah, thinking they have escaped His watch. But in reality, every moment of their respite is accumulating against them, and their punishment will be multiplied because of their persistence in sin.
Allah then declares: "Indeed, My plan is mighty." This is a powerful reassurance to the believers and a terrifying warning to the wrongdoers. Allah's taking hold of the oppressors is not like the revenge of a weak creature. It is the grip of the Almighty, the All-Powerful, whose might knows no bounds. No force can resist it, no strategy can evade it, and no power on earth can shield anyone from it. When Allah decides to seize someone, there is no escape — His plan is executed with perfect wisdom, perfect timing, and absolute strength.
The beauty of this verse lies in its dual message. For the believers, it brings comfort and patience — knowing that justice will certainly prevail, even if it seems delayed. For the disbelievers and sinners, it serves as a grave warning: do not be deceived by the temporary ease of this world, for the mighty plan of Allah is ever-watchful, and His justice is inevitable.
A Call to Reflection and Action:
Dear reader, let this verse awaken your heart. Do not look at the apparent success of those who defy Allah and think they have won. Their respite is but a rope being extended to them — the longer it is, the harder the fall. And do not despair if you see evil prevailing around you; the plan of Allah is mighty, and His promise is true.
Take heed of your own life as well. If you find yourself sinning and yet no immediate punishment comes, do not take this as a sign of safety. Rather, see it as an opportunity — a chance to repent, to turn back to your Lord, and to mend your ways before the mighty plan of Allah unfolds. Allah's mercy is vast, and His door of repentance is open. Do not wait until the grip of His justice takes hold, for then there will be no return.
Embrace the path of faith and righteousness, and trust in Allah's wisdom. He sees all, He knows all, and His plan is perfect. The believer's heart finds peace in this certainty: no good deed is lost, no injustice is forgotten, and the mighty plan of Allah encompasses everything.
