Key Words and Their Meanings:

  • تَدْعُونَ (you call upon): You invoke, worship, or seek help from.
  • مِن دُونِهِ (besides Him): Other than Allah, i.e., false deities, idols, or any beings worshipped instead of Allah.
  • لَا يَسْتَطِيعُونَ (they are not able): They lack the power and capability entirely.
  • نَصْرَكُمْ (to help you): To grant you victory, support, or relief in times of need.
  • وَلَا أَنفُسَهُمْ يَنصُرُونَ (nor can they help themselves): They cannot even defend or benefit their own existence.

Explanation of the Verse:

In this verse, Allah addresses the polytheists who call upon idols, statues, or other false gods, hoping for their support and assistance. Allah makes it clear that these so-called deities are utterly powerless. They cannot help you in any way—neither in your worldly affairs nor in your spiritual salvation—and they cannot even help themselves. They are lifeless, helpless objects or beings that have no control over their own fate, let alone yours.

This verse is a powerful reminder of the absolute futility of worshipping anything other than Allah. The idols that people cling to are not only incapable of granting victory or protection, but they are also completely dependent on their creators. They cannot move, speak, or act on their own. So how could anyone place their trust in them? How could anyone turn to them in times of hardship, when they are more helpless than the very person seeking their aid?

The repetition of this message in the Qur'an serves to emphasize a profound truth: only Allah—the Creator, the Sustainer, and the All-Powerful—deserves our worship and our reliance. He is the One who hears our prayers, answers our calls, and grants us victory. He is the One who never fails and never abandons His servants.

A Call to Reflection and Faith:

Dear reader, pause and reflect on this simple yet profound reality. When you are in distress, who truly answers your call? When you are in need, who truly provides? It is Allah alone—the One who created you, sustains you, and knows every detail of your life. The false gods of this world—whether they are idols of stone, wealth, status, or even human beings—are all incapable of helping you, and they cannot even help themselves.

So turn to Allah with a sincere heart, and place your trust in Him alone. He is the Most Merciful, the Most Compassionate, and His door is always open to those who call upon Him. He promises in the Qur'an: "Call upon Me; I will respond to you" (40:60). This is a promise that never fails.

Let this verse be a reminder to purify your worship, to direct all your hopes and prayers to Allah, and to find peace in knowing that the One you rely on is the Almighty, the All-Powerful, who is capable of all things. Indeed, in His hands lies all good, and to Him we all return.

📜 Verse 195-199 — Al-A'raf

Do they have feet by which they walk? Or do they have hands by which they strike? Or do they have eyes by which they see? Or do they have ears by which they hear? Say, [O Muhammad], "Call your 'partners' and then conspire against me and give me no respite.
Indeed, my protector is Allah, who has sent down the Book; and He is an ally to the righteous.
And those you call upon besides Him are unable to help you, nor can they help themselves."
And if you invite them to guidance, they do not hear; and you see them looking at you while they do not see.
Take what is given freely, enjoin what is good, and turn away from the ignorant.
