Word Meanings:

  • Yanzaghanna (يَنزَغَنَّكَ): To prick, sting, or provoke; here it refers to the whisper or incitement of Satan that stirs anger, temptation, or discouragement from good.
  • Nazgh (نَزْغٌ): A harmful touch or influence from Satan, such as a whisper, a surge of anger, or a push toward evil.
  • Fasta'idh (فَاسْتَعِذْ): Seek refuge and protection, i.e., turn to Allah and ask Him to shield you from the evil of Satan.

Explanation of the Verse:

O noble Prophet, and by extension every believer, if you ever feel the sting of Satan—whether it be a flash of anger, a whisper that discourages you from doing good, or an urge that pulls you toward wrongdoing—then do not rely on your own strength or argue with the whisper. Instead, immediately turn to Allah and seek His refuge. Say: "I seek refuge with Allah from the accursed Satan." This is the believer's fortress and the surest defense against the enemy's attacks.

Allah is *Samee'* (All-Hearing), so He hears your plea for protection, and He is *'Aleem* (All-Knowing), fully aware of your situation, your struggles, and what is truly best for you. He knows the sincerity of your heart and your need for His help, so He will surely answer your call and guard you from Satan's schemes.

This verse is a divine prescription for every moment of weakness or provocation. It teaches us that the battle against Satan is not fought with our own willpower alone, but through a living connection with Allah. When you feel anger rising, when you feel lazy to pray, when you feel tempted to sin—that is the moment to pause, breathe, and say: *A'udhu billahi minash-shaytanir-rajim*. This simple act of turning to Allah disarms the enemy and fills your heart with peace and strength.

A Da'wah Reflection:

How beautiful is this guidance from our Lord! He does not leave us alone in the battlefield of life, nor does He ask us to fight Satan with our own limited power. He gives us a direct line to His protection—a refuge that is always open, always available, at any hour and in any place. This is the mercy of Allah: He knows our weakness, yet He provides us with the ultimate shield. So whenever you feel the whispers of doubt, anger, or sin, remember that Allah is just one sincere plea away. He hears you, He knows your struggle, and He will never abandon you. Make this practice a habit, and you will find a tranquility that no whisper of Satan can ever disturb.

📜 Verse 198-202 — Al-A'raf

And if you invite them to guidance, they do not hear; and you see them looking at you while they do not see.
Take what is given freely, enjoin what is good, and turn away from the ignorant.
And if an evil suggestion comes to you from Satan, then seek refuge in Allah. Indeed, He is Hearing and Knowing.
Indeed, those who fear Allah - when an impulse touches them from Satan, they remember [Him] and at once they have insight.
But their brothers - the devils increase them in error; then they do not stop short.
