Translation — Tafsir
Word Meanings:
- ‘Ād: An ancient Arab tribe, descendants of ‘Ād, known for their great physical strength and advanced civilization. They lived in the region of Al-Aḥqāf (the sandy hills) in southern Arabia.
- Hūd: The prophet sent to the people of ‘Ād. He was one of their own brethren in lineage, not in religion.
- Tattaqūn: To be conscious of Allah, to fear His punishment, and to protect oneself by obeying His commands and avoiding His prohibitions.
Tafsir (Explanation):
And indeed, We sent to the tribe of ‘Ād their brother Hūd, a man from among them, well-known to them in lineage and character. They had turned to worshipping idols and false gods besides Allah, so he said to them: "O my people! Worship Allah alone, for you have no god worthy of worship other than Him. He is the One who created you, sustains you, and to Him alone belongs all divinity. Will you not then fear Him and be conscious of His punishment and anger?" He called them to leave their false worship and return to the pure monotheism of their forefathers, reminding them that only through sincere devotion to Allah could they attain safety in this life and the Hereafter.
Da‘wah Message:
This noble verse carries a timeless message for every generation: the call to Tawḥīd (pure monotheism) is the foundation of all divine messages. Just as Prophet Hūd (peace be upon him) addressed his people with gentleness and brotherhood, saying "O my people," we too are invited to spread the message of Islam with wisdom, compassion, and love. The question "Will you not then fear Allah?" is a gentle yet powerful reminder that our hearts are naturally inclined to recognize the truth, and that turning to Allah in sincere worship brings peace, purpose, and protection. Let this verse inspire you to reflect: if the mighty people of ‘Ād, with all their strength and grandeur, could not escape Allah’s judgment when they rejected His messenger, then how much more do we, in our weakness, need to hold fast to the rope of Allah and worship Him alone? Embrace this beautiful call today, for in it lies your salvation and eternal success.
