Key Words and Their Meanings:

  • Al-Fulk (الفُلْك): The ship or ark.
  • Aghraqna (أَغْرَقْنَا): We drowned (them).
  • Ameen (عَمِينَ): Blind — meaning blind of heart, unable to perceive the truth.

Explanation of the Verse:

After Prophet Noah (peace be upon him) called his people to worship Allah alone, warned them of His punishment, and conveyed the message with patience and wisdom, they rejected him and persisted in their denial. They not only refused to believe but also mocked him and his followers. When their arrogance and stubbornness reached their peak, and they showed no sign of accepting the truth, Allah answered His prophet’s supplication against them.

Allah says: "So they denied him" — meaning they rejected Noah’s call and continued in their disbelief. "Then We saved him and those with him in the ship" — Allah commanded Noah to build the ark, and when the punishment came in the form of a great flood, He saved Noah and the believers who boarded the ship with him. This was a manifestation of Allah’s mercy and His promise to support His righteous servants. "And We drowned those who denied Our signs" — the disbelievers who rejected Allah’s clear proofs and miracles were overwhelmed by the flood and perished. "Indeed, they were a people blind" — their blindness was not of the eyes, but of the hearts. They saw the signs of Allah’s power and the warnings of His prophet, yet they refused to reflect, understand, or accept the truth.

This verse carries a profound lesson for all of humanity: the fate of those who reject the messengers of Allah is destruction, while the fate of the believers is salvation and honor. It also demonstrates that Allah’s help is always near for those who trust in Him and follow His guidance, even when they are few in number and face great opposition.

A Da'wah Reflection:

This story is a timeless reminder that no matter how powerful or numerous the disbelievers may seem, Allah’s promise to protect His believers is certain. Noah’s people had wealth, strength, and numbers, yet none of that availed them against the command of Allah. On the other hand, Noah and his small group of believers were saved because of their faith and patience. This encourages us to hold firm to our faith, to trust in Allah’s plan, and to never despair of His help, even when we feel alone or overwhelmed. It also invites us to open our hearts to the truth, so that we are not counted among those who are blind to the signs of Allah, for the greatest loss is to see the truth and still turn away from it. May Allah guide us all to the straight path and protect us from the blindness of the heart.

📜 Verse 62-66 — Al-A'raf

I convey to you the messages of my Lord and advise you; and I know from Allah what you do not know.
Then do you wonder that there has come to you a reminder from your Lord through a man from among you, that he may warn you and that you may fear Allah so you might receive mercy."
But they denied him, so We saved him and those who were with him in the ship. And We drowned those who denied Our signs. Indeed, they were a blind people.
And to the 'Aad [We sent] their brother Hud. He said, "O my people, worship Allah; you have no deity other than Him. Then will you not fear Him?"
Said the eminent ones who disbelieved among his people, "Indeed, we see you in foolishness, and indeed, we think you are of the liars."
