Word Meanings:

(Baṣīrah): A witness, an eye-witness, or a clear proof/evidence. It refers to the faculties and limbs of a person that bear witness against them, as well as the guardian angels who record deeds.

Explanation of the Verse:

This verse reveals a profound truth about human accountability: every person is a clear witness against themselves. On the Day of Judgment, no one will need external accusers, because Allah has endowed each human being with an internal "eye-witness" — their own limbs, senses, and the record kept by the appointed angels.

The verse emphasizes that a person cannot escape the consequences of their actions by offering excuses or justifications. Even if someone tries to deny their misdeeds or present elaborate defenses, their own body parts — hands, feet, eyes, ears, and skin — will testify to what they did. The very faculties that a person used to commit sins in this world will speak the truth on that Day.

This is a powerful reminder that Allah’s justice is perfect and absolute. No one can hide from their deeds, for the evidence is embedded within their own being. The verse also carries a profound moral lesson: since we are our own witnesses, we should live with self-awareness and sincerity, knowing that we cannot deceive ourselves or our Creator.

A Call to Reflection and Action:

This verse invites every soul to pause and reflect: if our own limbs will testify against us, how careful should we be in how we use them? Our eyes, which we use to look at what pleases us — will they bear witness to what we gazed upon? Our tongues, which we use to speak — will they testify to what we uttered? Our hands and feet — will they confirm where we went and what we did?

This is not a message of fear alone, but of hope and transformation. Allah, in His infinite mercy, has given us this life as a chance to correct our course before that Day arrives. The same limbs that could testify against us can also be used for good — to pray, to help others, to speak truth, and to walk toward righteousness.

Let this verse inspire you to live with mindfulness, knowing that you are always in the presence of your own witness. Embrace the beauty of Islam by turning every action into an act of worship, and let the awareness of this internal testimony draw you closer to Allah, the Most Merciful, who forgives all sins for those who sincerely repent. The door of repentance is open — do not let your own limbs catch you unprepared.

📜 Verse 12-16 — Al-Qiyamah

To your Lord, that Day, is the [place of] permanence.
Man will be informed that Day of what he sent ahead and kept back.
Rather, man, against himself, will be a witness,
Even if he presents his excuses.
Move not your tongue with it, [O Muhammad], to hasten with recitation of the Qur'an.
