Explanation of the Verse:

This noble verse was revealed to address a beautiful and sincere habit of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) during the revelation of the Qur'an. When the Angel Gabriel (peace be upon him) would bring down the words of Allah, the Prophet would hasten to move his tongue and lips, repeating the words immediately — out of deep eagerness and love for the divine message, and out of a noble fear that he might forget any part of it before it was fully settled in his heart.

Allah, the Most Merciful, gently and lovingly calmed His beloved Messenger, saying: "Do not move your tongue with it to hasten it." In other words: O Prophet, do not rush to recite the Qur'an while Gabriel is still delivering it. Do not be anxious — for the One who sent this revelation is fully capable of preserving it for you.

This verse carries a profound lesson in patience, trust, and reliance upon Allah. It teaches us that when Allah undertakes a matter, He perfects it completely. The preservation of the Qur'an was never left to human effort alone — it was a divine promise and a divine guarantee. Allah took it upon Himself to gather the Qur'an in the Prophet's chest, to enable him to recite it whenever he wished, and to explain its meanings and rulings. This is a magnificent reassurance: the responsibility of memorization, recitation, and understanding all rested with Allah — and the Prophet's role was simply to listen, receive, and convey.

The verse also beautifully illustrates the etiquette of receiving knowledge: when a teacher or a bearer of truth speaks, the seeker should listen attentively and not rush ahead. True understanding comes through calm presence and focused listening, not through anxious haste.

For us as believers, this verse is a timeless reminder to approach the Qur'an with reverence, patience, and humility. When we read or hear the Qur'an, we should not race through it, but rather pause, reflect, and allow its words to settle in our hearts. It reassures us that Allah has preserved His Book — in the hearts of millions, in the written mushaf, and in its perfect recitation — and that this preservation is an ongoing miracle that continues to this day.

Let this verse fill your heart with tranquility: the same Allah who preserved the Qur'an for His Prophet preserves your faith, your efforts, and your deeds when you sincerely turn to Him. Trust Him, listen to His words with a calm heart, and He will grant you understanding beyond your expectations. The Qur'an is not a book to be rushed — it is a living conversation between you and your Lord. So slow down, listen, and let His words transform you.

📜 Verse 14-18 — Al-Qiyamah

Rather, man, against himself, will be a witness,
Even if he presents his excuses.
Move not your tongue with it, [O Muhammad], to hasten with recitation of the Qur'an.
Indeed, upon Us is its collection [in your heart] and [to make possible] its recitation.
So when We have recited it [through Gabriel], then follow its recitation.
