Surah Al-Qiyamah — Verse 27

Word Meanings:

• "Qeela" (قِيلَ): It was said — meaning, the people present at the deathbed began to say.
• "Man" (مَنْ): Who is there...?
• "Raaq" (رَاقٍ): One who recites a ruqyah (a healing supplication or charm) over the dying person, hoping to cure him.

Explanation of the Verse:

When the soul of a dying person reaches the collarbone — the highest point of the chest — and death becomes certain, the people gathered around him look at one another in helplessness and say: "Is there anyone who can recite a ruqyah over him? Is there anyone who can heal him from this condition?" They desperately search for a cure, but there is no cure for what has come. The angels of death have already arrived, and the decree of Allah cannot be turned back.

At that moment, the dying person himself realizes with certainty that this is the final farewell to this world. The severity of the end of this life meets the severity of the beginning of the Hereafter, and every soul is driven to its Lord — either to Paradise or to the Fire. No healer can save him, no medicine can benefit him, and no wealth can ransom him. The only thing that matters now is what he sent forth in his life.

A Call to Reflection:

Dear brother, dear sister — picture that moment. When the breath rattles in the chest, when the eyes widen in realization, and when those who love you most can only whisper: "Is there anyone who can save him?" — at that hour, no doctor, no money, no status will avail you. Only your deeds will speak for you. Only your faith will be your companion. So before that hour comes, turn to your Lord in repentance, hold fast to His Book, and live a life that will make that final moment a door to eternal bliss, not a gateway to regret. Indeed, Allah is the Most Merciful, and His door of repentance remains open until the soul reaches the throat.
