Translation — Tafsir
Word Meanings:
- "Saddeqa" (صَدَّقَ): To believe, affirm, or attest to the truth of something — here, specifically referring to believing in the Messenger (peace be upon him) and the Qur'an.
- "Sallā" (صَلَّىٰ): To perform the prayer (Salah) — the act of worship directed solely to Allah.
Tafsir (Explanation):
This verse describes the state of the disbeliever who, despite being presented with the truth, chose to reject it entirely. The verse states: "So he neither believed [in the Messenger and the Qur'an], nor did he pray [to Allah]." This means the disbeliever did not affirm the truth of what the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) brought, nor did he humble himself before Allah through the obligatory prayers. Instead, he denied the Qur'an and turned away from faith altogether. Following this rejection, he walked back to his people with arrogance and pride, striding haughtily as if he had achieved something great. The verse then issues a stern warning: "Destruction upon you, so destruction! Then destruction upon you, so destruction!" — a repeated threat emphasizing the severity of his fate.
This verse highlights two fundamental pillars of faith: belief in the heart (Tasdiq) and action through worship (Salah). The disbeliever failed in both. He neither accepted the truth with his heart nor demonstrated submission through his limbs. His arrogance after rejection only compounded his guilt, as he paraded his disbelief without shame.
A Call to Reflection and Action:
Dear reader, this verse invites you to pause and examine your own relationship with these two pillars. Belief in Allah and His Messenger is the seed of guidance, and prayer is the fruit that nourishes that seed daily. The one who truly believes cannot neglect prayer, for prayer is the connection between the servant and his Lord — a moment of intimacy, peace, and strength. Imagine standing before Allah, the Most Merciful, five times a day, pouring out your worries and seeking His guidance. This is not a burden; it is a gift. It is the key to tranquility in this life and salvation in the next.
Do not be like the one described here — rejecting the truth and walking away in pride. Rather, embrace faith with a sincere heart, and let your prayer be the light that illuminates your path. The doors of Allah's mercy are wide open for anyone who turns to Him. Take that step today, and you will find a peace that surpasses all understanding.
