Translation — Tafsir
Key Words and Their Meanings:
- "Mā'in Mahīn" (مَاءٍ مَّهِينٍ): A weak, humble, and despicable fluid — referring to the semen (nutfah) from which every human being is created. The word "mahīn" conveys both physical frailty and lowliness in origin.
Explanation of the Verse:
Allah, the Exalted, addresses the disbelievers who deny the Resurrection and question His power, asking them a rhetorical question that strikes at the very core of their existence: "Did We not create you from a weak, humble fluid?" This is the semen (nutfah) that is discharged from the body — a substance so insignificant that it is easily overlooked, yet it is the starting point of every human being.
This question is not merely informational; it is a profound reminder and a challenge. If Allah was able to create you — with your complex form, your hearing, your sight, your intellect, and your very being — from such a despicable drop of fluid, then how can you doubt His ability to bring you back to life after death? The One who originated creation from nothing is certainly capable of re-creating it.
The verse continues in the following verses (which are part of the same context) to explain that Allah placed this fluid in a secure resting place — the womb of the mother — for a known and determined period. He then shaped it, formed it, and brought it forth as a living human being. Indeed, Allah is the Best of creators, and His power knows no bounds.
A Da'wah Reflection:
O dear reader, pause and reflect on this simple yet profound truth. You were once nothing — a drop of fluid, weak and insignificant. Yet, by the mercy and power of Allah, you became a human being with a soul, a mind, and a purpose. This is not a matter of chance or coincidence; it is the deliberate act of the All-Wise Creator. If you acknowledge that your very existence is a miracle from Allah, then why would you turn away from His guidance? Why would you deny the One who gave you life, and who will surely bring you back to Him?
This verse is an invitation to humility. It reminds you that you have no reason for arrogance or pride, for your origin is humble. But it also fills you with hope — for if Allah could create you from such a weak beginning, then His mercy and power are greater than any sin you may have committed. Return to Him, submit to Him, and you will find that the same Power that created you from a drop of fluid is more than capable of forgiving you, guiding you, and granting you eternal success.
