Word Meanings:

  • Wail (وَيْلٌ): Destruction, severe punishment, or a valley in Hell reserved for the disbelievers. It signifies intense suffering and ruin.
  • Yawma’idhin (يَوْمَئِذٍ): On that Day — referring to the Day of Resurrection and Judgment.
  • Lil-mukadhdhibīn (لِلْمُكَذِّبِينَ): For those who deny — i.e., those who reject the truth, the resurrection, and the reckoning.

Explanation of the Verse:

This verse delivers a stern and solemn warning: "Woe on that Day to the deniers!" It is a recurring refrain throughout Surah Al-Mursalat, striking like a drumbeat of truth after each description of the blessings of Paradise for the righteous and the torments of Hell for the wicked. Here, Allah declares that destruction and severe punishment await those who deny the Day of Judgment and the account they must give for their deeds.

The verse points to a profound reality: the deniers, in their brief enjoyment of worldly life, exposed themselves to everlasting agony. They traded the eternal for the temporary, and in doing so, they sealed their own fate. On that Day, when every soul will face the consequences of its choices, the deniers will find no escape, no intercessor, and no relief. Their loss will be absolute, and their regret will be beyond measure.

A Call to Reflection:

Dear reader, this verse is not merely a threat — it is a mercy wrapped in warning. It invites you to pause and ask yourself: Am I among those who live heedless of the Hereafter? Or am I among those who prepare for that inevitable meeting with their Lord? The Qur’an does not leave us in darkness; it illuminates the path. The One who created you, who sustains you, and who knows the deepest secrets of your heart, has sent you this message out of love — so that you may not be among the deniers.

The door of repentance is open until the final moment of your life. Turn to Allah now, with a sincere heart, and you will find Him ever-forgiving, ever-merciful. Do not let the fleeting pleasures of this world deceive you, for the Hereafter is far better and everlasting. Embrace the truth, and you will taste a joy that no denial can ever match — the peace of faith and the eternal bliss of Paradise.
