Translation — Tafsir
Word Meanings:
- Muʿtadin (مُعْتَدٍ): One who transgresses the limits set by Allah, exceeding the bounds of justice and righteousness in his words and deeds.
- Athīm (أَثِيم): A person deeply immersed in sin, one whose wrongdoing has become a persistent and overwhelming trait of his character.
Tafsir (Explanation):
This verse reveals a profound truth: the denial of the Day of Judgment and the rejection of the Qur’an is never a matter of intellectual honesty or sincere doubt. Rather, it is the hallmark of those who have crossed all moral boundaries and whose hearts have been darkened by persistent sin. The verse states that none rejects this truth except every transgressor who is steeped in wrongdoing.
Why is this so? Because when a person continually commits sins and refuses to repent, his heart becomes sealed, his vision becomes clouded, and he loses the ability to perceive the clear signs of Allah’s power and wisdom. The Qur’an is not rejected because it lacks evidence—it is rejected because the sinner’s heart has become a prison of arrogance and disobedience. Such a person, when the verses of Allah are recited to him, dismisses them as "tales of the ancients," not because they are false, but because his own corruption has blinded him to the truth.
This verse carries a powerful warning and a beautiful lesson for every believer: purity of heart and steadfastness in obedience are the keys to recognizing and accepting the truth. The one who guards his soul from transgression and sin will find his heart open to the light of faith, while the one who indulges in wrongdoing will find himself drifting further from the truth, until denial becomes his second nature.
A Call to Reflection:
Dear reader, let this verse be a mirror for your soul. It teaches us that faith is not merely a matter of the mind—it is a matter of the heart. When we strive to purify our actions, avoid transgression, and repent sincerely, we are not only protecting ourselves from punishment but also opening the doors of guidance and certainty. The Qur’an is the living word of Allah, and its truth shines brighter than the sun. Do not let the darkness of sin veil your eyes from its light. Turn back to your Lord with a sincere heart, and you will find that the truth you once denied becomes the most beloved reality of your life. Indeed, Allah’s mercy is vast, and His door of repentance is open to all who seek Him with honesty and humility.
