Translation — Tafsir
Word Meanings:
- Yashhaduhu — witnesses it, attends it, or is present at it.
- Al-Muqarrabun — those brought near; the closest and most honored angels to Allah, who occupy the highest ranks of proximity to Him.
Explanation of the Verse:
This verse continues the description of the record of the righteous (the abrar), which was mentioned in the preceding verses. Allah tells us that this book — the inscribed record of the deeds of the pious and God-fearing — is witnessed by the *Muqarrabun*, the angels who are drawn close to Allah. These are the elite among the angels, those who dwell in the highest heavens and are nearest to the Divine Presence. They attend to this book, bear witness to its contents, and honor it with their presence. This witnessing is not merely a passive observation; it is a mark of the immense value and sanctity of this record. The fact that the most honored angels are present at this book elevates its status and demonstrates the great honor bestowed upon the righteous whose deeds are recorded therein.
The verse also implies that the angels of every heaven — the closest to Allah among them — are present and witness this book, which is preserved and complete, with nothing added to it and nothing omitted. This is a source of immense comfort and glad tidings for the believers: their deeds, however small, are recorded with precision and honored by the highest creation of Allah.
A Da'wah Reflection:
Dear Muslim, ponder the greatness of this scene! The book containing your deeds — if you are among the righteous — is so honored that the closest angels to Allah stand witness to it. Your Lord, the Most Merciful, has not neglected even the smallest of your good actions. Every prayer, every charity, every kind word, every tear shed in humility before Him — all are preserved in a book that the elite of the heavens attend to. What a motivation to strive in righteousness! What a joy to know that your efforts are not lost, but are kept in the highest of places, witnessed by the noblest of creation. Let this verse fill your heart with hope and determination. Do not underestimate any good deed, for it is recorded in a book that even the angels of the highest heavens honor. And let this also remind you of the opposite: just as the good deeds are recorded, so too are the bad — so guard your actions, and race towards what pleases your Lord, that you may be among those whose book is witnessed by the *Muqarrabun*. May Allah make us all among the righteous whose record is thus honored. Ameen.
