Translation — Tafsir

Word Meanings:

  • لَا يُوثِقُ — "No one will bind" or "no one will fetter."
  • وَثَاقَهُ — "His binding" or "His fettering" — referring to Allah's binding of the disbelievers.
  • أَحَدٌ — "Anyone" — meaning no person whatsoever.

Explanation of the Verse:

On that Day of Judgment — a day of sheer terror and overwhelming severity — Allah Almighty will punish the wicked with a punishment unlike any other. The verse declares that no one, no matter how powerful or cruel they may have been in this world, will be able to bind or fetter anyone the way Allah binds the disbelievers and sinners in chains of fire. The binding of Allah is absolute, inescapable, and utterly humiliating. No tyrant who ever tortured people in this life can match even a fraction of the severity and might of Allah’s restraint and punishment. This is a stark warning that the justice of the Hereafter is entirely in Allah’s Hands — a justice that no earthly power can replicate or resist.

A Call to Reflection and Faith:

Dear reader, let this verse awaken your heart. If the most powerful kings and oppressors of history cannot bind a single soul on that Day, then how great is the Majesty of the One who holds all creation in His grip? This is a reminder to turn back to Allah in humility before that Day arrives — a Day when no intercessor can help except by His permission, and no escape is possible. The Qur’an does not frighten us to despair; rather, it invites us to seek Allah’s mercy while there is still time. Repent today, worship your Lord sincerely, and treat His creation with justice and compassion, so that you may be among those who are saved from that terrible binding and welcomed into His eternal peace. Indeed, Allah is Most Merciful to those who return to Him.

Return to your Lord, well-pleased and pleasing [to Him],
