Explanation of the Verse:
This verse completes the description of the truly righteous person — the one who will be saved from the blazing Fire. After mentioning that such a person gives his wealth to purify himself, and that he does so not as repayment for a favor done to him, Allah clarifies the ultimate motive behind his giving: he seeks only the Face of his Lord, the Most High.
This means his intention is purely and solely directed toward Allah — desiring His pleasure, His reward, and His nearness. He does not give to show off, nor to gain praise, nor to repay a debt of gratitude to any human being. His heart is fixed on Allah alone, and his giving is an act of worship driven by love, hope, and devotion.
The phrase "the Most High" reminds us that Allah is exalted far above any comparison to His creation. The believer who seeks His Face understands that no earthly reward, status, or recognition can compare to the honor of being accepted by the Lord of the heavens and the earth.
This verse teaches us a profound lesson about sincerity (ikhlāṣ). The value of a deed is not measured by its size but by the purity of the intention behind it. A small act done purely for Allah's sake can outweigh mountains of deeds done for show.
A Call to the Reader:
Dear brother or sister, reflect on your own giving and your own deeds. What moves your heart when you help others? Is it the hope of being thanked, the desire to be seen, or the yearning for Allah's pleasure? The door of sincerity is open to everyone — you don't need to be wealthy to be among the righteous. A kind word, a small donation, a helping hand — if done seeking Allah's Face alone, it becomes a treasure that will shine for you on the Day when nothing else will avail.
Let this verse inspire you to purify your intentions. Make Allah your sole audience, and you will find a peace and contentment that no human praise can ever give. The One who is Most High sees your silent efforts, knows your hidden sacrifices, and will reward you with what pleases you — eternal bliss in His Paradise. Seek His Face, and you will never be disappointed.
