Explanation of the Verse:
After Prophet Nuh (peace be upon him) had made that passionate plea to Allah on behalf of his son — a request born of deep paternal love but lacking knowledge of his son's true spiritual state — Allah gently corrected him, informing him that his son was not of his family in the religious sense, for his deed was unrighteous. At that moment, Nuh — the noble Prophet — immediately realized his error. He did not argue or persist; rather, he turned to his Lord in sincere repentance and humility, saying:
"My Lord, I seek refuge in You from ever asking You anything of which I have no knowledge. I acknowledge my ignorance and my limitation, and I submit completely to Your infinite wisdom. And if You do not forgive me for this misstep and shower me with Your mercy, then I will certainly be among the losers — those who have lost the greatest treasure, which is Your pleasure and Your forgiveness."
This is the beautiful character of a true believer: when corrected, he does not become defensive, but rather acknowledges his fault, seeks forgiveness, and expresses complete dependence on Allah's grace. Nuh's words here are a timeless lesson for every Muslim — that we must never presume to know better than Allah, and that our salvation lies solely in His forgiveness and mercy. No matter how righteous we may be, we are always in need of Allah's pardon, and without it, we are indeed among the losers.
A Call to Reflection:
Dear reader, ponder the humility of this great Prophet. He was one of the five mightiest messengers of Allah, yet when he made a mistake, he immediately sought refuge in Allah and acknowledged that without His forgiveness and mercy, he would be a loser. This teaches us that no one — regardless of their rank or deeds — can be self-sufficient before Allah. The door of repentance is always open, and the most beloved of people to Allah are those who turn back to Him after every slip, saying: "My Lord, forgive me and have mercy on me, for You are the Most Merciful of those who show mercy."
Let this verse inspire you to never let pride stand between you and sincere repentance. Whenever you err — and we all do — rush to Allah, seek His refuge, and ask for His forgiveness and mercy. For indeed, the losers are only those who deprive themselves of this divine grace, while the winners are those who constantly return to their Lord with a humble heart.
