Translation — Tafsir
Word Meanings:
- Min ajr (مِنْ أَجْرٍ): Any reward, payment, or compensation in return for something.
- Dhikr (ذِكْرٌ): A reminder, admonition, or message that awakens the heart and mind.
Explanation of the Verse:
This verse addresses the noble Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) and, through him, all who carry the message of truth. It declares that he does not ask any people for a fee or reward in return for guiding them to faith and delivering the Quran to them. His call is entirely free—pure sincerity, driven by compassion for humanity, not by any worldly gain.
The verse then affirms that this Quran is nothing but a reminder—an admonition and a source of guidance—for all of creation, for every human being across time and place. It is not a private treasure for one nation or one era; it is a universal message, open to all who seek the truth.
Had the people reflected upon this, they would have realized the Prophet's honesty and embraced his call. For who would devote his life to teaching and guiding others without asking for any reward, except one who is truly sent by God? The Quran is a mercy and a light, and the Prophet's only concern is that people awaken from heedlessness and return to their Lord.
A Da'wah Reflection:
This verse is a profound proof of the truthfulness of Islam. The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) spent his entire life calling people to worship God alone, enduring hardship, persecution, and sacrifice—yet he never asked anyone for a single penny in return. His reward was with God alone. This selflessness is a hallmark of true prophethood and a sign that this message is from the Creator, not from a man seeking status or wealth.
For the seeker of truth, this is an invitation to reflect: If the message of the Quran is free, available to all, and its carrier asked nothing in return, then what prevents a sincere heart from accepting it? The Quran is a reminder that awakens the soul, cleanses the spirit, and leads to eternal success. Open your heart to it, and you will find in it the answers your soul has been searching for. This is the mercy of your Lord, extended to you—so do not turn away from it.
