Word Meanings:

  • "Bil-ghayb" (بِالْغَيْبِ): In his absence, unseen by him.
  • "Kaid" (كَيْدَ): Plot, scheme, or deceitful plan.
  • "Al-Kha'inin" (الْخَائِنِينَ): The treacherous ones — those who betray trust, whether in word, deed, or intention.

Explanation of the Verse:

This verse concludes the speech of the wife of Al-Aziz (the high-ranking official of Egypt), as she declares: "That [confession] is so that he [my husband] may know that I did not betray him in his absence — meaning, I did not commit adultery or dishonor him behind his back — and that Allah does not guide the schemes of the treacherous."

Her words here carry a profound meaning. She is not merely defending herself; she is affirming the truth that had become evident to her through the unfolding events. When she saw the proof of Yusuf's innocence and the reality of her own guilt in attempting to seduce him, she acknowledged her wrongdoing openly. She wanted her husband to know that despite her earlier false accusation against Yusuf, she had not actually betrayed him with any act of immorality — the sin was in her intention and her attempt, not in a completed deed. And she recognized that Allah, in His perfect justice, does not grant success or guidance to those who deceive and betray. Their plots may seem to work for a time, but ultimately, Allah exposes them and brings their schemes to nothing.

This statement also reflects a turning point in her heart — a moment of truthfulness after falsehood, of clarity after confusion. She realized that the path of integrity and honesty is the only path that leads to peace, and that Allah's protection is with those who are truthful, even when the truth is hard to admit.

A Call to Reflection:

This verse teaches us a timeless lesson: that honesty and trustworthiness are the foundations of a sound heart and a sound life. The wife of Al-Aziz, despite her earlier mistake, found dignity in admitting the truth. She understood that no scheme, no matter how cleverly devised, can succeed against Allah's will. Allah does not bless treachery; He does not guide the plots of those who betray trust — whether that trust is between spouses, friends, or communities.

Dear reader, let this be a reminder for you: whenever you are tempted to deceive, to hide the truth, or to betray someone's trust, remember that Allah sees all — even what is hidden in the heart. The path of honesty may be difficult at times, but it is the path of honor in this world and the Hereafter. And know that Allah, the All-Seeing, the All-Knowing, is always with those who are truthful and sincere. He will never leave them without support, and He will never allow the schemes of the treacherous to prevail over the truth. So choose truth, and place your trust in Allah — for He is the Best of Planners, and His guidance is the only guidance that never fails.

📜 Verse 50-54 — Yusuf

And the king said, "Bring him to me." But when the messenger came to him, [Joseph] said, "Return to your master and ask him what is the case of the women who cut their hands. Indeed, my Lord is Knowing of their plan."
Said [the king to the women], "What was your condition when you sought to seduce Joseph?" They said, "Perfect is Allah! We know about him no evil." The wife of al-'Azeez said, "Now the truth has become evident. It was I who sought to seduce him, and indeed, he is of the truthful.
That is so al-'Azeez will know that I did not betray him in [his] absence and that Allah does not guide the plan of betrayers.
And I do not acquit myself. Indeed, the soul is a persistent enjoiner of evil, except those upon which my Lord has mercy. Indeed, my Lord is Forgiving and Merciful."
And the king said, "Bring him to me; I will appoint him exclusively for myself." And when he spoke to him, he said, "Indeed, you are today established [in position] and trusted."
