- Alqūhu (فألقوه): Cast it or throw it — meaning place it gently upon the face.
- Ya'ti Basīran (يأْتِ بَصِيرًا): He will return seeing — i.e., his sight will be restored, and he will become clear-sighted once again.
- Ahlikum (أهلكم): Your family — referring to his father, brothers, and their entire household.
Tafsir (Explanation):
When Prophet Yusuf, peace be upon him, revealed his identity to his brothers and forgave them with immense kindness, he asked them about his beloved father, Ya'qub (Jacob), peace be upon him. They told him that his father had lost his sight due to excessive weeping over the loss of his dear son — tears that never ceased, night or day, until the light of his eyes faded away.
Moved by deep compassion and filial devotion, Yusuf handed them his shirt — a garment that carried his blessed trace — and instructed them: "Go with this shirt of mine and cast it over my father's face; he will regain his sight." This was not mere fabric; it was a vessel of divine mercy, for Allah had placed healing and blessing in it. When the shirt was laid upon Ya'qub's face, his sight was restored by the will of Allah, a miracle that echoed the earlier miracle of Yusuf's dream and his rise to power.
Then Yusuf added: "And bring to me all your family" — meaning his father, his brothers, and their entire household — so that they could all reunite in Egypt, living under his care and protection in dignity and peace.
This verse radiates profound lessons in family bonds, humility, and hope. Yusuf, despite his high position as the treasurer of Egypt, did not forget his aging father. He did not send wealth or gifts alone; he sent a token of love and faith, knowing that true healing comes from Allah. It teaches us that no matter how far we rise in this world, our roots, our parents, and our families remain sacred trusts. It also reminds us that trials — even the loss of sight from grief — can be lifted by divine mercy when hearts turn to Him in patience and trust.
Dear reader, see how Allah turned years of separation into reunion, and tears into joy. If you are going through hardship, know that His relief is near. Hold onto hope, keep your family ties strong, and never underestimate the power of sincere love and prayer. For Allah, who restored sight to a grieving father through a blessed shirt, is fully capable of mending your heart, healing your wounds, and bringing light to your darkest days.
