Word Meanings:
- "Yastahzi'un" (يستهزئون): They mock, ridicule, and belittle with scorn and derision.
Explanation of the Verse:
This verse is a profound source of comfort and reassurance for the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) during the intense trials he faced from his people. Allah informs him that this is not a new or unique phenomenon—rather, it is the established pattern of history. Every messenger sent to previous nations, from the earliest communities of humankind, was met with the same mockery and ridicule. No prophet came to a people except that they scoffed at him, belittled his message, and treated him with contempt.
The verse highlights a universal truth: the enemies of truth have always resorted to mockery as a weapon against the bearers of divine guidance. They use ridicule to undermine the seriousness of the message, hoping to discredit the messenger and discourage his followers. Yet, this mockery never changed the course of truth, nor did it halt the spread of Allah's guidance. Instead, it became a testimony against them and a means of their own destruction.
For the Prophet (peace be upon him), this verse carries a powerful lesson: he is in the company of the greatest prophets who came before him, all of whom endured similar treatment with patience and steadfastness. Their success was not achieved through the acceptance of their people, but through their unwavering trust in Allah and their commitment to delivering His message, regardless of the response.
A Call to Reflection:
Dear reader, reflect on this timeless reality: the mockers of yesterday are gone, their names and legacies faded into obscurity, while the messengers they ridiculed are remembered with honor and reverence by billions. The Qur'an itself, once mocked by the disbelievers of Makkah, is today the most widely read and memorized book in the world. This is the promise of Allah—that truth prevails, and falsehood perishes. So, when you face ridicule for your faith, take heart: you are walking the path of the prophets. Their patience was rewarded, and so will yours be. Do not let the laughter of the ignorant shake your conviction, for the final victory belongs to those who uphold the truth with sincerity and trust in their Lord.
