Tafsir (Explanation):
These noble prophets mentioned in this blessed chapter—beginning with Zakariyyā and ending with Idrīs, peace be upon them all—are the very ones upon whom Allah bestowed His immense favor and grace. He granted them the honor of prophethood, elevating them from the lineage of Adam, from the descendants of those who were carried in the ark with Nūḥ, from the progeny of Ibrāhīm and Isrā'īl (Yaʿqūb), and from among those whom He guided to the truth and chose for His divine message. These were people of exceptional purity and devotion.
When the verses of the Most Merciful were recited to them—verses affirming His oneness, His power, and His wisdom—they did not respond with arrogance or indifference. Instead, their hearts melted with awe, their eyes filled with tears, and they fell to the ground in prostration before their Lord. Their weeping was not out of sorrow for worldly matters, but out of deep consciousness of Allah's greatness and their own humility before Him. They understood that the Qur'an is not mere words, but a living call from the Creator to His servants, and their response was one of complete submission and love.
This verse teaches us a profound lesson: the greatest of Allah's creation—the prophets themselves—responded to divine revelation with humility, tears, and prostration. How then can we, as believers, remain heedless when we hear the words of our Lord? The Qur'an is a mercy and a guidance, and our hearts should soften when we encounter it. Let us strive to emulate these noble examples by approaching the Qur'an with reverence, allowing its verses to move our hearts, and responding with sincere worship and repentance. Indeed, the tears of a believer in prostration are among the most beloved acts to Allah, for they reflect a living, connected heart. May Allah make us among those who listen to His words and respond with humility and devotion.
