Translation — Tafsir

Word Meanings:

  • "Rafa'naahu" (We raised him): This refers to elevating his rank, honor, and remembrance.
  • "Makaanan 'Aliyyan" (a lofty place): This denotes a high station, both in physical elevation and in spiritual dignity.

Tafsir (Explanation):

This verse speaks of Prophet Idris (Enoch, peace be upon him), whom Allah honored with an elevated status beyond that of ordinary human beings. The "lofty place" mentioned here signifies two interconnected honors: first, Allah raised his name and mention among the peoples and nations, making him a figure of great renown and respect; second, Allah elevated his rank among the righteous and the near-stationed angels, granting him a distinguished position in the heavenly realms. Some scholars have noted that this elevation also refers to his being raised to the fourth heaven, a unique honor bestowed upon him, while others interpret it as his admission into Paradise. In all interpretations, the essence is that Allah granted Idris a station of immense honor, both in this world—through his noble prophethood and legacy—and in the Hereafter, where he enjoys nearness to his Lord.

Da'wah (Call to Allah):

This verse is a profound reminder that true elevation in the sight of Allah is not measured by wealth, status, or worldly power, but by faith, righteousness, and devotion. Prophet Idris was raised to a lofty place because of his unwavering commitment to Allah's message and his exemplary character. This teaches us that no matter how humble our beginnings may be, Allah can elevate us to the highest ranks if we sincerely strive in His path. Let this inspire you to seek elevation through good deeds, sincere worship, and beneficial knowledge—for Allah honors whom He wills, and His generosity knows no bounds. The doors of divine elevation are open to every believer who turns to Him with a pure heart.

Those were the ones upon whom Allah bestowed favor from among the prophets of the descendants of Adam and of those We carried [in the ship] with Noah, and of the descendants of Abraham and Israel, and of those whom We guided and chose. When the verses of the Most Merciful were recited to them, they fell in prostration and weeping.
