Tafsir (Explanation):
This verse delivers a profound and sobering message about the consequences of turning away from Allah's guidance. When a person deliberately ignores the Qur'an — the ultimate reminder and source of divine wisdom — and refuses to respond to its call, they set themselves on a path of spiritual and worldly hardship.
The "constricted life" mentioned here is not merely about material poverty. Even if such a person appears wealthy and successful outwardly, their inner world is one of restlessness, anxiety, and spiritual emptiness. Their heart is deprived of the tranquility that comes from faith, and their soul is never at peace. This constriction extends beyond this world — in the grave (Barzakh), they will face punishment and a narrow, suffocating existence, as the scholars have explained.
Then, on the Day of Resurrection, Allah will gather this person blind — blind in their physical sight, and more importantly, blind in their ability to present any valid argument or excuse before their Lord. Just as they turned a blind eye to the truth in this life, they will be raised blind in the next, unable to see the mercy that surrounds the believers or to defend themselves with any sound reasoning.
This verse serves as a powerful reminder for every soul: the Qur'an is not a burden — it is a light, a healing, and a source of true contentment. Whoever clings to it finds a life of peace, even amidst trials, and a radiant end. Whoever abandons it loses both worlds. Let this be an invitation to open your heart to the Book of Allah today, for in it lies your success in this life and your salvation in the next. Do not wait until the day when blindness overtakes you — for the one who sees the truth now will never be blind in the Hereafter.
