Translation — Tafsir
Word Meanings:
- Yawm al-Zeenah (يَوْمُ الزِّينَةِ): The Day of Adornment, referring to a festival day when people would dress up and decorate themselves.
- Yuhshara (يُحْشَرَ): To be gathered or assembled together.
- Duhan (ضُحًى): Forenoon, the time of bright morning when the sun has risen well.
Tafsir (Explanation):
Prophet Musa (Moses, peace be upon him) responded to Pharaoh's demand to set a date for their confrontation, saying: "Your appointed meeting is on the Day of Adornment, and let the people be gathered in the forenoon."
This was a wise and strategic choice by Musa. He selected the festival day—a day of celebration when the people would naturally be out in large numbers, dressed in their finest clothes and gathered from every corner of the land. The forenoon timing was deliberately chosen so that everything would be clear and visible to all, leaving no room for doubt, secrecy, or deception. It was to be an open, public event where the truth would manifest before everyone's eyes.
Musa's choice reflects his confidence in the truth he carried. He did not seek a hidden or private encounter; rather, he wanted the widest possible audience so that when Allah's signs were displayed, they would be witnessed by the masses. This was also a subtle challenge to Pharaoh—inviting him to a public arena where his false claims would be exposed before his own people.
A Da'wah Reflection:
This verse teaches us the beautiful principle that truth does not fear exposure. When you are upon the truth, you can confidently bring it into the light, before all people, at the clearest time. There is no need for secrecy or ambiguity. The believer's strength lies in the certainty of faith, and when Allah is with you, you can face any gathering with courage and tranquility.
Notice also how Musa, despite being in the court of the most powerful tyrant of his time, spoke with calm authority and chose the terms of engagement. This shows us that when we stand for truth, Allah grants us dignity and wisdom beyond our natural capacity. Never underestimate what Allah can do through a sincere believer who places his trust in Him.
