Translation — Tafsir
Word Meanings:
- يَكْلَؤُكُم (yakla'ukum): He guards and protects you.
- مِنَ الرَّحْمَٰنِ (mina ar-Raḥmān): From the punishment or harm that the Most Merciful may send upon you.
- ذِكْرِ رَبِّهِم (dhikri Rabbihim): The Reminder of their Lord — meaning the Qur'an and His admonitions and proofs.
- مُّعْرِضُونَ (muʿriḍūn): Turning away, heedless, and neglectful.
Tafsir (Explanation):
O Prophet, say to these people who mockingly rush for the punishment to come: "Who is there that can protect you by night or by day from the wrath of the Most Merciful?" The answer is clear — no one at all. Neither your fortresses, nor your wealth, nor your armies, nor your gods can shield you from His decree. If He wills to seize you with punishment, whether you are asleep in the darkness of night or awake in the brightness of day, no power in the heavens or the earth can repel His command.
Yet, despite this undeniable truth, these people do not reflect. They turn away from the Reminder of their Lord — the Qur'an — with all its warnings, admonitions, and clear proofs. They do not give it a moment's thought, nor do they take heed of its lessons. They are so engrossed in their mockery and arrogance that they have completely neglected the very source of their guidance and salvation.
A Da'wah Reflection:
Dear reader, pause and reflect on this profound question: Who truly guards you every single moment of your existence? It is none other than Allah — the Most Merciful — who watches over you while you sleep, while you work, while you are unaware. Your very breath is a testament to His continuous care. Yet how often do we remember Him? How often do we turn to His Book for guidance?
The Qur'an is not merely a book to be recited; it is a living reminder, a manual for life, and a shield against every harm. Those who turn away from it are left vulnerable — not because Allah has abandoned them, but because they have abandoned the very rope that connects them to their Creator.
Let this verse awaken your heart. Do not be among those who are heedless. Open the Qur'an today, reflect on its verses, and let it transform your life. For the One who protects you by night and day deserves your gratitude, your obedience, and your love. Embrace His reminder, and you will find peace in this world and safety in the Hereafter.
