Word Meanings:
- Yujādil (يُجَادِلُ): Argues or disputes with the intent to refute and overcome.
- Hudā (هُدًى): Guidance, direction, or a clear path that leads to truth.
- Kitābun Munīr (كِتَابٍ مُّنِيرٍ): An illuminating scripture — a revealed book that is clear, radiant, and evident in its guidance.
Explanation of the Verse:
Among people there are those who argue about Allah and His Oneness, about His choice of His Messenger (peace be upon him), and about the revelation of the Quran — yet they do so without any true knowledge, without any guidance from a rightly guided leader, and without any illuminating scripture sent down from Allah that could serve as a clear proof and decisive evidence. Their argumentation is built upon ignorance, conjecture, and blind stubbornness, not upon certainty or revelation.
Such a person turns away arrogantly, twisting his neck in pride, rejecting the truth and seeking to block others from entering the religion of Allah. He debates not to reach the truth, but to defend falsehood and mislead others. His fate is sealed: humiliation and disgrace in this world, as his arguments are refuted and his falsehood is exposed, and on the Day of Resurrection, he will be cast into the blazing Fire as a just recompense for his arrogance and rejection.
This verse is repeated in the Quran as a stern rebuke and a warning — for the one who argues without knowledge is not merely misguided, but harmful to himself and to those who follow him. He has no proof from his Lord, no guidance from a messenger, and no scripture to support his claims; he only follows his own desires and whims.
A Call to Reflection and Faith:
Dear reader, reflect on this profound truth: how can anyone argue about the Creator of the heavens and the earth without knowledge, without guidance, and without a revealed book? The Quran invites you to a different path — a path of certainty, built upon divine revelation and clear evidence. It calls you to open your heart to the light of truth, to seek knowledge from its pure sources, and to follow the guidance of the final Messenger, Muhammad (peace be upon him), who brought a Book that is truly *munīr* — radiant and illuminating every corner of human life.
Do not be like those who argue for the sake of arguing, turning away from truth in pride. Rather, be among those who say: "We hear and we obey." For the one who sincerely seeks the truth will find it shining clearly in the Quran, and the one who submits to Allah will find peace in this life and eternal bliss in the Hereafter. Let this verse be a reminder to you: true success lies not in winning debates, but in surrendering to the One who created you and guided you through His illuminating Book.
