Translation — Tafsir

Key Words and Their Meanings:

  • "Ilaah" (إِلَٰه): A deity or object of worship; that which is worshipped with love, reverence, and submission.
  • "Tattaqoon" (تَتَّقُون): To be conscious of Allah, to fear His punishment, and to guard oneself against His displeasure by obeying His commands and avoiding His prohibitions.

Explanation of the Verse:

In this noble verse, Allah Almighty informs us of the beginning of His divine mission to humanity through His prophets. He sent Prophet Nuh (Noah), peace be upon him, to his people as the first messenger to a specific community after a long period of idol worship had spread among mankind. Nuh’s call was clear, simple, and profound: he invited his people to worship Allah alone, without any partner, and to abandon all false deities.

His message was not merely a call to ritual worship, but a call to the very essence of existence—to recognize the One True Creator who alone deserves devotion, gratitude, and obedience. Nuh addressed his people with the affectionate term "O my people," showing his deep compassion and sincere concern for their welfare. He did not come to them with arrogance or superiority, but as a caring guide who wanted nothing but their salvation.

The Prophet Nuh emphasized that there is no deity worthy of worship except Allah. This is the fundamental truth upon which all divine messages rest. He then posed a powerful rhetorical question: "Will you not then fear Allah?" This question was meant to awaken their hearts and minds, urging them to reflect on their condition and to realize the grave consequences of continuing in their disbelief. It was an invitation to mindfulness, to consider the fate of those who reject their Creator, and to turn back before it was too late.

A Da'wah Reflection:

This verse carries a timeless lesson for every believer. It reminds us that the message of all prophets, from Nuh to Muhammad (peace be upon them all), was one and the same: pure monotheism—the worship of Allah alone. It also teaches us the beautiful manner of calling others to the truth: with gentleness, affection, and wisdom, addressing people with kindness ("O my people") and appealing to their reason and conscience ("Will you not fear Allah?").

When we invite others to Islam, we should follow this prophetic example. We should speak with love and compassion, not harshness. We should present the truth clearly and ask thought-provoking questions that lead people to reflect on their own beliefs and actions. And we should always remember that our goal is not to win arguments, but to save souls from the fire and guide them to the eternal bliss of paradise. May Allah make us among those who call to His path with wisdom and beautiful exhortation, and may He grant us the sincerity and patience of His noble prophets. Ameen.

📜 Verse 21-25 — Al-Mu'minun

And indeed, for you in livestock is a lesson. We give you drink from that which is in their bellies, and for you in them are numerous benefits, and from them you eat.
And upon them and on ships you are carried.
And We had certainly sent Noah to his people, and he said, "O my people, worship Allah; you have no deity other than Him; then will you not fear Him?"
But the eminent among those who disbelieved from his people said, "This is not but a man like yourselves who wishes to take precedence over you; and if Allah had willed [to send a messenger], He would have sent down angels. We have not heard of this among our forefathers.
He is not but a man possessed with madness, so wait concerning him for a time."
