Translation — Tafsir
Word Meanings:
- Malakūt (مَلَكُوتُ): Absolute, supreme dominion and ownership; the "t" at the end intensifies the meaning, indicating complete and perfect sovereignty over all things.
- Yujīr (يُجِيرُ): He grants protection and safety; He shields and defends whoever seeks refuge with Him.
- Lā yujāru ʿalayh (لَا يُجَارُ عَلَيْهِ): No one can protect or shield anyone from His will; none can grant refuge against His decree or avert His punishment.
Explanation of the Verse:
O Prophet, say to those who deny the truth: "Tell me — who is it that holds in His hand the absolute and perfect sovereignty over everything in existence? Nothing escapes His dominion — not the heavens, not the earth, not the seen or the unseen. And who is it that grants protection and safety to whomever He wills among His servants, shielding them from harm and evil? And equally, who is it that no one can protect against — meaning, if He wills harm or destruction upon someone, no power in the universe can come to that person's aid, and no one can stand in His way or repel His decree?"
If you truly know and understand, then answer this question. The answer is self-evident: it is Allah alone — the One, the Almighty, the Sovereign of all creation. He gives refuge, and none can give refuge against Him. He protects His servants from calamities, yet no one can protect another from His justice or His will.
A Call to Reflection and Faith:
This verse is a profound invitation to awaken the mind and the heart. It asks every human being to look around and realise that all power, all ownership, and all protection ultimately belong to Allah alone. When you recognise this truth, your heart naturally turns to Him in humility and trust. Why fear anyone when the true Protector is Allah? And why feel secure from anyone when the true Judge is Allah?
This is the essence of Tawheed — the oneness of Allah — which liberates you from the fear of creation and binds you to the Most Merciful. When you know that no one can harm you except by His will, and no one can benefit you except by His permission, your heart finds peace. So turn to Him, seek His refuge, and place your trust in Him alone. He is the One who answers the one who calls, protects the one who seeks shelter, and grants security to the believer in this life and the Hereafter.
