Word Meanings:
- أَمَدَّكُم (Amaddakum): He provided you, granted you abundantly, and supplied you in succession.
- بِأَنْعَامٍ (Bi-an'ām): Livestock, specifically including camels, cattle, and sheep/goats — the primary wealth of the Arabs at that time.
- وَبَنِينَ (Wa-banīn): Sons and male offspring, who were considered a source of strength, honor, and continuity of lineage.
Explanation of the Verse:
In this verse, the Prophet Hud (peace be upon him) continues his heartfelt admonition to his people, the 'Ad, calling them to fear Allah and obey His commands. After warning them of the consequences of disobedience, he reminds them of the immense favors their Lord has bestowed upon them — favors that should have filled their hearts with gratitude and submission.
Allah, the Most Generous, had granted them an abundance of livestock: camels for transport and milk, cattle for labor and sustenance, and sheep and goats for wool and meat. These were the pillars of their economy and daily life. Moreover, He blessed them with sons — strong, healthy male offspring who would carry their legacy, protect their tribes, and work the land. These were not small gifts; they were signs of divine favor and a test of gratitude.
The mention of these blessings serves as a powerful reminder: the One who gave all this is worthy of worship and obedience. If they reflected on how these provisions came to them — not by their own power, but by the mercy of Allah — they would realize that turning away from Him is not only foolish but a grave injustice to their own souls.
Da'wah Reflection:
Dear reader, pause and look around you. Your health, your family, your children, your livelihood — every single blessing you enjoy is a gift from Allah, the Most Merciful. He did not give you these out of need, but out of His infinite love and generosity. When you recognize His favors, your heart naturally softens, and you begin to ask: "How can I repay my Lord for all He has given me?" The answer is simple and beautiful: by thanking Him, by obeying Him, and by drawing closer to Him through sincere worship. The Prophet Hud's call to his people is a timeless call to you and me — to wake up, to be grateful, and to submit to the One who has never stopped giving. Do not let your blessings become a reason for arrogance; let them become a reason for humility and devotion. For every breath you take is a sign of His mercy, and every provision you receive is an invitation to know Him better. Embrace that invitation, and you will find peace that no wealth or children can ever provide.
