Surah Ash-Shu'ara — Verse 94

Word Meanings:

• فَكُبْكِبُوا (fa-kubkibū): They were thrown headlong, piled up on top of one another, and cast down forcefully into the Fire.
• الْغَاوُونَ (al-ghāwūn): Those who went astray — the misguided ones, namely the disbelievers who worshipped false gods and led others away from the truth.

Explanation of the Verse:

On the Day of Judgment, when the false gods that the polytheists worshipped are brought forth along with their worshippers, they will all be thrown into Hellfire together — cast down violently, tumbling over one another in utter humiliation. The idols and the misguided people who adored them will be piled into the abyss, none escaping the divine punishment. This includes the leaders of misguidance who called others to disbelief, as well as those who blindly followed them, and all who aided Satan in spreading corruption and falsehood. They will be plunged into the blazing Fire, their fate sealed, with no hope of rescue or relief.

This scene is a stark reminder of the ultimate consequence of shirk (associating partners with Allah) and following falsehood. The idols that were once revered and invoked in times of need will not only fail to help their worshippers but will be cast into the Fire alongside them — a crushing blow to those who placed their trust in anything other than Allah.

A Call to Reflection:

Dear reader, pause and ponder this powerful imagery: those who devoted their lives to false deities — whether statues, wealth, status, or vain desires — will find themselves thrown into the Fire with those very objects of their devotion. How foolish it is to place one's hope in anything that cannot benefit or harm! Yet Allah, in His infinite mercy, has sent us the Qur'an and the guidance of His Prophet ﷺ to save us from such a fate. He calls us to worship Him alone — the Creator, the Sustainer, the Most Merciful — and promises Paradise to those who submit to Him with sincerity. Let this verse awaken your heart: turn to Allah now, before the Day when no plea will avail, and secure your place among the guided ones who will be saved from this terrible end. The door of repentance is open, and Allah's mercy is vast — do not delay your return to Him.
