Tafsir (Explanation):

After the dramatic events of Moses being placed in the river and then being picked up by the household of Pharaoh, Allah — in His infinite wisdom and mercy — brought the child back to his own mother. This was not a coincidence or mere chance; it was a divine arrangement that fulfilled multiple purposes at once.

First, Allah returned Moses to his mother so that her eye would be comforted — she would see her beloved son with her own eyes, safe and sound, after the agonizing moments of placing him in the river. Her heart, which had been torn with worry and fear, would now find complete tranquility. The Qur'an describes this as "the cooling of the eye" — a beautiful Arabic expression for the deepest form of joy and contentment.

Second, Allah ensured that she would not grieve — neither over the temporary separation nor over the fear of what might happen to him. The return of her son was a complete removal of her sorrow, replacing it with overwhelming happiness.

Third, and most profoundly, this return was designed so that she would know with certainty that Allah's promise is true. Allah had promised her — through divine inspiration placed in her heart — that her son would be returned to her and that he would be among the messengers. When she saw this promise fulfilled before her very eyes, her faith was strengthened to a level of absolute certainty that no doubt could ever shake. She witnessed firsthand that Allah never breaks His promises.

Yet, despite this magnificent demonstration of divine power and faithfulness, most people do not know this truth. The majority of humanity remains heedless of Allah's promises and His ability to fulfill them perfectly. They see events as random occurrences, unaware that behind every moment is a wise and purposeful divine plan. The disbelievers, in particular, fail to recognize that Allah's word is absolute truth and that He never fails in His commitments.

This verse carries a powerful lesson for every believer: Allah's promises are certain, even when circumstances seem impossible. The mother of Moses was in a situation of extreme distress — her infant son was in the hands of her enemy, the tyrant who slaughtered innocent children. Yet Allah turned the entire situation around and returned her child to her in the most unexpected way. Similarly, whatever trials we face, we must hold firmly to the certainty that Allah's promise of relief, victory, and mercy is true — even if we cannot see how it will unfold.

The story also teaches us the beauty of trusting Allah completely. When the mother of Moses obeyed the divine instruction to place her child in the river, she did so with faith, and Allah rewarded that trust with a reunion that surpassed her expectations. Her son not only returned to her arms but was also raised in the palace of the enemy, protected by Allah, destined to become a great prophet who would challenge Pharaoh himself.

So let this verse be a source of hope and strength for you. Whatever hardship you face, whatever separation or loss you endure, remember that Allah's promise is true. He is the One who brings comfort after distress, joy after sorrow, and fulfillment after patient waiting. Trust Him completely, for He never fails those who place their reliance in Him.

And she said to his sister, "Follow him"; so she watched him from a distance while they perceived not.
And We had prevented from him [all] wet nurses before, so she said, "Shall I direct you to a household that will be responsible for him for you while they are to him [for his upbringing] sincere?"
So We restored him to his mother that she might be content and not grieve and that she would know that the promise of Allah is true. But most of the people do not know.
And when he attained his full strength and was [mentally] mature, We bestowed upon him judgement and knowledge. And thus do We reward the doers of good.
And he entered the city at a time of inattention by its people and found therein two men fighting: one from his faction and one from among his enemy. And the one from his faction called for help to him against the one from his enemy, so Moses struck him and [unintentionally] killed him. [Moses] said, "This is from the work of Satan. Indeed, he is a manifest, misleading enemy."
