Translation — Tafsir

Word Meanings:

  • Al-Yamm (الْيَمِّ): The sea, specifically the Red Sea.
  • Nabadhnahum (نَبَذْنَاهُمْ): We cast them away — meaning, We threw them out and abandoned them to their fate.
  • Al-Zalimin (الظَّالِمِينَ): The wrongdoers — those who transgressed against themselves and against Allah's commands through disbelief, arrogance, and oppression.

Explanation of the Verse:

After Pharaoh and his mighty army pursued the Children of Israel in arrogance and tyranny, Allah seized them with His absolute power. He took Pharaoh and all his soldiers — the very same forces that had terrorized nations and claimed divinity — and cast them into the sea, drowning them all in a single moment. Not a single one of them survived, despite their numbers, their weapons, or their pride.

Then Allah turns to His Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) and to every reader of this Qur'an, saying: *"Look!"* — reflect and observe with your own eyes, through the lens of faith and history, what the ultimate end of the wrongdoers truly was. Their end was utter destruction, humiliation, and ruin. The very sea that they thought would be their path to victory became their grave. Their power, which seemed invincible, was rendered worthless in the blink of an eye.

This is not merely a story of the past — it is a timeless lesson and a solemn warning. Allah's justice is certain, and His retribution against oppression is inevitable. No tyrant, no matter how strong, can escape the grasp of the Almighty. The fate of Pharaoh stands as an eternal testimony that arrogance before Allah leads to nothing but loss, while humility and submission lead to salvation.

A Call to Reflection:

Dear reader, pause and ponder: How many tyrants have walked this earth, only to be erased from its surface? How many oppressors have built empires, only to have them crumble in an instant? The Qur'an invites you to open your heart to this truth — that the Creator of the heavens and the earth is ever-watchful over the deeds of all. He does not delay His justice out of weakness, but out of mercy and wisdom. Yet when His decree comes, nothing can repel it.

Let this verse be a source of hope for the oppressed and a warning for the oppressor. For the believer, it strengthens certainty that Allah is the ultimate Protector and that no matter how dark the night of injustice may seem, the dawn of divine justice is near. And for the one who has strayed into arrogance, it is a call to repent before it is too late — for Allah's door of mercy is open until the moment His punishment descends.

So take heed from this divine narrative, and let it draw you closer to your Lord, who alone is worthy of all power and glory. Indeed, the end of the wrongdoers is a lesson for all who reflect, and the reward of the righteous is a promise that never fails.

📜 Verse 38-42 — Al-Qasas

And Pharaoh said, "O eminent ones, I have not known you to have a god other than me. Then ignite for me, O Haman, [a fire] upon the clay and make for me a tower that I may look at the God of Moses. And indeed, I do think he is among the liars."
And he was arrogant, he and his soldiers, in the land, without right, and they thought that they would not be returned to Us.
So We took him and his soldiers and threw them into the sea. So see how was the end of the wrongdoers.
And We made them leaders inviting to the Fire, and on the Day of Resurrection they will not be helped.
And We caused to overtake them in this world a curse, and on the Day of Resurrection they will be of the despised.
