Tafsir (Explanation):
In this verse, Allah Almighty describes the state of Pharaoh and his military commanders after they witnessed the miracles of Prophet Musa (Moses, peace be upon him) — the staff turning into a serpent and the shining hand — yet they rejected the truth out of sheer arrogance. They exalted themselves in the land of Egypt, lording over the people with tyranny and oppression, and they refused to submit to the call of monotheism and obedience to Allah. Their pride was not based on any right or merit; rather, it was pure arrogance and a love of dominance.
Moreover, they deluded themselves into believing that after death they would never be brought back to their Lord for reckoning. They denied the Resurrection entirely, thinking that their power and wealth would protect them forever, and that no one would call them to account for their injustice and transgression.
This verse serves as a timeless warning: arrogance against the truth and denial of the Hereafter are twin evils that lead to destruction. Pharaoh, despite all his might, was drowned in the sea along with his armies, and his end became a lesson for all of humanity.
A Da'wah Reflection:
Dear reader, reflect deeply on this scene: Pharaoh possessed immense power, vast armies, and unmatched wealth — yet none of these availed him when the decree of Allah arrived. His arrogance blinded him from seeing the obvious truth, and his denial of the Return to Allah sealed his fate.
This verse invites us to purify our hearts from the disease of pride, for arrogance is a trait that Allah detests. It also reminds us of the certainty of the Hereafter — that every soul shall return to its Creator, and every deed, whether great or small, will be weighed. Let us not be like those who think they are free from accountability. Instead, let us live with humility, submit to the truth wherever we find it, and prepare for the Day when we shall stand before Allah, the Just, the All-Knowing.
The Qur'an repeatedly calls us to this awareness: that this worldly life is temporary, and the true life is the Hereafter. So, be among those who lower their wings with humility, who accept the truth with an open heart, and who strive for the pleasure of their Lord — for that is the path to eternal success.
