Translation — Tafsir
Word Meanings:
- Sarmadan (سرمدًا): Perpetual, continuous, unceasing — meaning day that never ends and is never followed by night.
- Taskunoon (تسكنون): You find rest, tranquility, and stillness — a time to settle down and recover from the fatigue of daily labor.
Explanation of the Verse:
O Messenger, say to those who deny the power of Allah and His exclusive right to worship: "Tell me — if Allah were to make the day continuous and unending upon you until the Day of Resurrection, with no night ever falling, then which god other than Allah could bring you a night in which you find rest and stillness? Which deity besides Allah possesses such power?"
Reflect upon this: the alternation of night and day is not a random accident — it is a precise, divine arrangement. The day is a time for striving, seeking provision, and conducting the affairs of life. The night is a time for rest, recuperation, and peace. If the day were eternal, your bodies would be exhausted, your lives would be disrupted, and the entire rhythm of existence would collapse. Yet Allah, in His infinite mercy and wisdom, has ordained this perfect cycle for your benefit.
Do you not see with your own eyes — and perceive with your minds — the greatness of Allah's power and the perfection of His wisdom? Do you not realize that the One who orchestrates this magnificent system, who alternates light and darkness for your welfare, is alone worthy of your worship and gratitude?
A Call to Reflection and Faith:
This verse invites you to open your eyes to the countless blessings that surround you every single moment — blessings so familiar that you may have ceased to notice them. The very fact that night follows day, and day follows night, is a living testimony to Allah's mercy and His absolute sovereignty.
Imagine for a moment a world without night — no cool evening breeze, no restful sleep, no quiet moments of reflection under the stars. Or imagine a world without day — perpetual darkness, no warmth of the sun, no opportunity to work and earn your livelihood. Both scenarios are unlivable. Yet Allah has granted you both, in perfect balance, as a gift from His boundless grace.
So let your heart awaken to this reality: the One who manages the sun and the moon, who commands the night and the day, who sustains you with His blessings at every breath — He is the only God worthy of your worship. Let this realization draw you closer to Him, fill your heart with gratitude, and lead you to submit to His will with love and sincerity. For He, and He alone, is your Lord, your Provider, and your Protector — now and forever.
