Translation — Tafsir
Key Words and Their Meanings:
- "Khayr" (خَيْرٍ): All forms of goodness, righteousness, and virtuous deeds—whether acts of worship, charity, kindness to others, or any action done sincerely for the sake of Allah.
- "Yukfarūhu" (يُكْفَرُوهُ): Derived from *kufr* here meaning "to deny, withhold, or disregard." In this context, it means that no good deed will be denied its due reward or be treated with ingratitude by Allah.
- "Al-Muttaqīn" (الْمُتَّقِينَ): The God-conscious, those who are mindful of Allah, obey His commands, and avoid what He has forbidden out of sincere faith and love for Him.
Explanation of the Verse:
This blessed verse is a profound reassurance from Allah to the believers who strive in the path of goodness. It declares that whatever good they do—whether great or small, apparent or hidden—will never be lost or go unrewarded. Allah, in His infinite justice and mercy, does not let a single atom's weight of good deed slip away unnoticed. Rather, He acknowledges it, appreciates it, and multiplies its reward in ways beyond human imagination.
The verse specifically addresses the community of believers mentioned in the preceding context—those who stand firm on faith, enjoin what is right, forbid what is wrong, and hasten to good deeds. For them, this is a promise of divine gratitude: their efforts are not in vain, their sacrifices are not forgotten, and their sincere intentions are fully known to their Lord.
Then the verse concludes with a beautiful attribute: "And Allah is All-Knowing of the Muttaqīn." This serves as both a comfort and a call to excellence. It comforts the believer by affirming that Allah knows exactly who the truly God-conscious are—those who do good not for show or worldly gain, but purely out of devotion to Him. It also elevates the standard: the highest rank is not merely doing good, but doing good with *taqwā*—that profound awareness of Allah that purifies intentions, refines actions, and keeps one steadfast even when no one is watching.
A Call to the Reader:
Dear reader, reflect on this magnificent promise! Allah—the Creator of the heavens and the earth, the Owner of all treasures—has pledged that your good deeds will never be wasted. Every kind word you speak, every helping hand you extend, every prayer you offer, every tear you shed in humility before Him—all of it is recorded, preserved, and will be returned to you multiplied beyond measure.
This is the beauty of Islam: it transforms ordinary moments into opportunities for eternal reward. You do not need to be wealthy or powerful to accumulate goodness. A sincere smile, a gentle word, removing a harm from the road, feeding a hungry soul, visiting a sick person—all of these are acts of *khayr* that Allah will never deny their reward.
So hasten to goodness with a heart full of hope and sincerity. Seek to be among the *Muttaqīn*—those whose lives are illuminated by the awareness of Allah, who do good for His sake alone, and who trust that their Lord sees and knows all. For indeed, Allah's knowledge encompasses everything, and His promise is true: no good deed will ever be lost.
