The Tafsir (Explanation):
When the believers made their heartfelt supplication to their Lord, Allah responded to them with a promise of immense mercy and generosity. He declared that He does not waste the deed of any doer among them—whether male or female. In His sight, both genders are equal in worth and in the reward for their righteous actions, for they are all from one another, united in faith and brotherhood. There is no preference for one over the other in the eyes of Allah except through piety and good deeds.
Then Allah highlights the special status of those who endured great trials for His sake: those who emigrated for His pleasure, leaving behind their homes and families; those who were unjustly expelled from their lands; those who were harmed and persecuted because of their devotion to Him; those who fought in His cause and were killed in the path of truth. For these noble souls, Allah makes a solemn promise: He will completely erase their sins and shortcomings, covering them with His forgiveness so that they are not held accountable for them. And He will admit them into Gardens beneath which rivers flow—a reward of pure delight and eternal bliss. This is a reward from Allah Himself, and with Allah is the most excellent reward, far beyond anything a servant could ever imagine or deserve.
This verse is a profound source of hope and encouragement for every believer. It teaches us that no sincere effort is ever lost, no matter how small it may seem. It reassures the oppressed, the migrant, and the one who struggles in the path of righteousness that their sacrifices are seen, valued, and rewarded by the Most Merciful. It also beautifully affirms the spiritual equality of men and women—both are equally capable of attaining Allah's pleasure and Paradise through their faith and righteous deeds.
So let every believer take heart: your struggles, your sacrifices, and your patience are never in vain. Allah sees all, and His reward is the most beautiful and everlasting. Turn to Him with sincerity, strive in His path with courage, and trust in His promise—for indeed, Allah never breaks His word.
