Translation — Tafsir
Key Words and Their Meanings:
- حَبِطَتْ (Habitat): Became void, nullified, or rendered worthless—like a plant that withers and produces no fruit.
- أَعْمَالُهُمْ (A'māluhum): Their deeds and actions.
- نَّاصِرِينَ (Nāṣirīn): Helpers, supporters, or protectors who could defend them or avert punishment.
Explanation of the Verse:
This verse describes the ultimate fate of those who reject faith and persist in disbelief—those who were addressed in the preceding verses. Allah declares that all their deeds have become utterly void and worthless, both in this worldly life and in the Hereafter.
In this life, their good actions—such as charity, kindness, or even acts of apparent virtue—carry no weight with Allah because they lack the foundation of true faith (Īmān). Their efforts are like scattered dust, bringing them no benefit, no reward, and no lasting value. In the Hereafter, these deeds will not save them from punishment, nor will they earn them any entry into Paradise.
Moreover, they will have no helpers or protectors—no one among the angels, prophets, or any creation—who can intercede for them or shield them from Allah's inevitable justice. Their isolation is absolute: no ally, no advocate, no escape.
This is a profound warning that the acceptance of deeds is intrinsically tied to faith. A deed without Īmān is like a body without a soul—lifeless and void. The verse serves as a call to every soul to examine the foundation of their actions: Are they built upon sincere belief in Allah and His Messenger, or upon hollow rituals and self-serving motives?
A Da'wah Reflection:
Dear reader, this verse is not merely a warning—it is an invitation. It reminds us that Allah, in His infinite mercy, has opened the door of repentance and sincerity. No matter what you have done, if you turn to Him with a truthful heart, embrace faith, and purify your intentions, your deeds will be accepted and elevated. Do not let your good works be like a mirage in the desert—seemingly real but vanishing upon approach. Build your life on the solid rock of Īmān, and you will find that every sincere act, no matter how small, becomes a treasure in the sight of Allah. The door is open, the path is clear, and the reward is eternal. Will you not seize this opportunity before it is too late?
