Key Words and Their Meanings:

The Fire will never touch us": meaning they will not be afflicted by the punishment of Hellfire.
  • "أَيَّامًا مَّعْدُودَاتٍ" — "except for a few numbered days": a limited, short period of time.
  • "وَغَرَّهُمْ" — "and deluded them": the verb *gharra* means to deceive through false hope and wishful thinking, leading one to rely on something that yields no real benefit.
  • "يَفْتَرُونَ" — "they used to invent": fabricating lies and falsehoods.

Explanation of the Verse:

This verse unveils the root cause behind the People of the Book's turning away from the truth and their stubborn rejection of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him). Their deviation was not due to ignorance, but rather a deep-seated false belief they had adopted: they claimed that the Hellfire would never touch them except for a few brief days, after which they would enter Paradise. This corrupt notion made them bold and reckless toward Allah, leading them to belittle His commands and persist in their distorted religion.

They were utterly deceived by the lies they themselves had fabricated — invented doctrines and baseless traditions that gave them false comfort and a sense of false security. Their own made-up beliefs became a veil over their hearts, preventing them from seeing the clear truth brought by the final Messenger. They trusted in their own inventions rather than in Allah's revealed scriptures, and this self-deception became the very barrier that kept them from faith.

A Call to Reflection and Faith:

Dear reader, see how dangerous it is to rely on false hopes and invented beliefs instead of submitting to Allah's revealed truth. These people were so confident in their own made-up narratives that they rejected the clear signs of Allah. Let this be a profound lesson for us all: never let wishful thinking or inherited assumptions blind you to the truth of the Qur'an and the Sunnah. The Qur'an is Allah's final, unaltered revelation — a light that dispels every darkness and a guide that leads to true success. Embrace it with a sincere heart, and you will find peace in this life and salvation in the next. Do not be like those who were deceived by their own fancies; rather, be among those who submit wholeheartedly to their Lord, for He is the Most Merciful, the Most Forgiving, and His promise of Paradise is true for those who believe and do righteous deeds.

📜 Verse 22-26 — Aal-Imran

They are the ones whose deeds have become worthless in this world and the Hereafter, and for them there will be no helpers.
Do you not consider, [O Muhammad], those who were given a portion of the Scripture? They are invited to the Scripture of Allah that it should arbitrate between them; then a party of them turns away, and they are refusing.
That is because they say, "Never will the Fire touch us except for [a few] numbered days," and [because] they were deluded in their religion by what they were inventing.
So how will it be when We assemble them for a Day about which there is no doubt? And each soul will be compensated [in full for] what it earned, and they will not be wronged.
Say, "O Allah, Owner of Sovereignty, You give sovereignty to whom You will and You take sovereignty away from whom You will. You honor whom You will and You humble whom You will. In Your hand is [all] good. Indeed, You are over all things competent.
