Translation — Tafsir
Key Words and Their Meanings:
- Makaru (وَمَكَرُوا) – They plotted or schemed secretly. It refers to concealing an evil intention and devising a plan to harm someone.
- Makara Allah (وَمَكَرَ اللَّهُ) – Allah countered their plot with His own perfect plan. This is a divine response to the scheming of the disbelievers, befitting His majesty and wisdom.
- Khayr al-Makireen (خَيْرُ الْمَاكِرِينَ) – The Best of Plotters, meaning the Most Powerful and Most Effective in executing His plan against those who scheme against His messengers and His religion.
Explanation of the Verse:
This noble verse reveals a profound truth about the fate of those who conspire against the truth. The disbelievers among the Children of Israel, who rejected Jesus (peace be upon him) and felt intense hatred toward him, plotted secretly to kill him. They appointed a man to assassinate him by stealth, believing they could extinguish the light of Allah's message.
But Allah, the All-Knowing and All-Wise, had a plan of His own—a plan that no human scheme could ever overcome. He cast the likeness of Jesus (peace be upon him) onto the very man who was sent to kill him. The conspirators seized this man, mistaking him for Jesus, and crucified and killed him—while Allah raised Jesus up to Himself, safe and unharmed. Their plot backfired completely, and they were left in utter confusion and disgrace.
The verse then declares: "And Allah is the Best of Plotters." This is a statement of divine perfection. Allah's "plotting" is not like the deceit of humans—it is a just and wise response to the wickedness of wrongdoers. He allows the schemers to be trapped in their own schemes, turning their evil intentions into their own destruction. This attribute of Allah is mentioned only in the context of countering the plots of the enemies of truth, and it reflects His absolute power, knowledge, and justice.
A Da'wah Reflection:
Dear reader, this verse carries a timeless message of hope and reassurance for every believer. No matter how powerful the enemies of truth may seem, no matter how elaborate their conspiracies, Allah is always in control. The plots of the wicked are like spider webs—fragile and doomed to collapse—while the plan of Allah is firm and unshakable.
When you see evil people scheming against Islam and its followers, do not despair. Remember that the same Allah who saved Jesus (peace be upon him) from the hands of his enemies is alive and watching over His servants today. He says in the Qur'an: "So be patient, [O Muhammad]. Indeed, the promise of Allah is truth. And let them not dishearten you who are not certain [in faith]" (30:60).
Let this verse strengthen your trust in Allah. Turn to Him in your hardships, rely on Him in your affairs, and know that His plan for you is always better than any plan others may devise against you. The victory belongs to the believers, and the end of the schemers is nothing but loss and regret. So hold firm to your faith, for Allah is indeed the Best of Plotters, and His help is near.
