Translation — Tafsir
Word Meanings:
- Tawallā (تَوَلَّىٰ): Turned away, abandoned, or rejected.
- Fāsiqūn (الْفَاسِقُونَ): Those who defiantly disobey, deviate from the path of obedience, and break away from the covenant of faith.
Explanation of the Verse:
After Allah took a solemn covenant from the prophets—that they would believe in the final Messenger and support him—this verse addresses those who come after them. If anyone turns away from this covenant, rejects the truth that has been clearly explained, and abandons the call of Islam after it has been made plain to them, then such people are the truly rebellious ones. They are the ones who have stepped outside the fold of obedience to Allah, broken their pledge, and chosen deviation over guidance. Their turning away is not a minor slip but a deliberate departure from the path of righteousness, marking them as those whose hearts have hardened against the truth.
This verse serves as a powerful reminder that faith is not merely a verbal declaration but a binding commitment. When the truth is clear and the evidence is overwhelming, turning away is a conscious choice—one that carries grave consequences. The term "fāsiqūn" here is not used lightly; it describes those who have knowingly and willfully broken their covenant with their Lord, preferring disobedience over submission.
A Call to Reflection and Action:
Dear believer, this verse is a gentle yet firm warning wrapped in divine mercy. Allah does not hide the truth from you; He illuminates it so that your path is clear. When you embrace Islam, you are not just adopting a religion—you are entering into a sacred covenant with your Creator, a covenant of love, obedience, and unwavering trust. Do not let the fleeting pleasures of this world distract you from the eternal bliss that awaits those who remain steadfast. Every step you take toward Allah is a step away from the darkness of disobedience. And every moment you resist turning away, you draw closer to a life of peace, purpose, and divine pleasure. Let this verse be a mirror for your soul: ask yourself, "Am I fulfilling my covenant with Allah, or am I drifting away?" The door of repentance is always open, and Allah’s mercy is vaster than your shortcomings. Return to Him, renew your pledge, and let your heart be a beacon of faith that never turns away from His light.
