Surah Aal-Imran — Verse 86

The question is not a request for information but an emphatic declaration that such guidance is utterly incompatible with their deliberate rejection.

The verse highlights the gravity of their crime: they did not disbelieve out of ignorance or lack of evidence. On the contrary, they had believed, they had witnessed the truth with their own hearts and tongues, and the divine signs—the Qur'an, the miracles, and the unassailable arguments—had come to them. Yet, they chose to abandon all of that and revert to kufr. This is not the error of one who is confused; it is the stubbornness of one who knows the truth and turns away from it.

Then the verse concludes with a decisive principle: Allah does not guide the people who are wrongdoers—those who, by their own choice, replace faith with disbelief and light with darkness.
