Translation — Tafsir
Word Meanings:
- Qānitūn (قَانِتُونَ): This refers to those who are obedient, submissive, and compliant to the command of Allah. It implies a state of humble submission and devotion, whether by choice (for the believers) or by compulsion (for all other creation).
Explanation of the Verse:
This verse establishes the absolute sovereignty and dominion of Allah (God) over all that exists. To Him alone belongs everything and everyone in the heavens and the earth — the angels, the humans, the jinn, the animals, the plants, and even the inanimate objects. All of them, without exception, are His property, His creation, and under His complete control and decree.
The term "qānitūn" (obedient/submissive) here carries a profound meaning. Every single creature in the universe is submissive to Allah's will — either willingly, as in the case of the believing servants and the angels who obey Him out of love and devotion, or unwillingly, as in the case of the disbelievers and the rest of creation, which is bound by the natural laws that Allah has decreed for it. Even the sun, the moon, the stars, the mountains, and the seas are all in a state of submission to their Lord, fulfilling the purpose for which they were created.
This universal submission is a sign of Allah's perfection and His sole right to worship. When you reflect upon this verse, you realize that you are part of this magnificent creation that is entirely dependent upon its Creator. The One who owns the heavens and the earth, and everything within them, is the One who deserves your complete devotion, your love, and your obedience.
A Call to Reflection and Faith:
Dear reader, ponder upon this beautiful truth: the same Lord who commands the galaxies and the winds, who sustains every living being, is the Lord who hears your prayers and knows your deepest thoughts. If all of creation is in submission to Him, how could you, as a conscious and rational being, choose to turn away from Him? The universe around you is a living testimony to His greatness — every sunrise and sunset, every breath you take, is an act of His mercy and power.
Let this verse soften your heart and draw you closer to your Creator. The submission of all creation to Allah is not a burden; it is a source of peace and tranquility. When you submit to Allah willingly, you align yourself with the very nature of the universe, and you find harmony in your soul. Islam is not merely a religion — it is the natural way of life that resonates with the very fabric of creation. Embrace it with an open heart, and you will find that true contentment lies in surrendering to the One who owns everything, including your own soul.
