Translation — Tafsir
Word Meanings:
- Nākisū Ruʼūsihim: Lowering their heads, bowed down in humiliation and shame.
- Abṣarnā: We have seen (i.e., we now perceive with certainty what we once denied).
- Fārji‘nā: So return us (to the worldly life).
- Mūqinūn: We are certain, fully convinced (of the truth of the Resurrection and the messages of the prophets).
Tafsir (Explanation):
If you could only see, O noble listener, the sight of the criminals on the Day of Judgment—those who denied the Resurrection and rejected the truth—when they stand before their Lord, their heads bowed low in utter disgrace and overwhelming shame! They cannot lift their eyes, for the weight of their sins and the humiliation of their position crushes them. In that moment, they cry out in desperation: "Our Lord, we have now seen with our own eyes the reality of what we once mocked, and we have heard with our own ears the truth that Your messengers conveyed to us. So send us back to the world, and we will do righteous deeds—not just any deeds, but deeds that please You. For now, we are certain—absolutely certain—of what we used to deny."
But alas, this realization comes too late. The time for action has passed; the time for reckoning has arrived. If you were to witness this scene, you would see something truly horrifying—a sight that would make every hair on your body stand on end. Their plea is sincere, but it is a sincerity born of necessity, not of faith. They saw the punishment with their own eyes, and now they beg for another chance. Yet the doors of return have been sealed, and the decree has been issued.
This verse serves as a powerful reminder for us who are still living in this world. We have the opportunity—right now, in this very moment—to open our eyes and ears to the truth. We do not need to wait until we stand before our Lord in humiliation to say, "We have seen and we have heard." Today, we can see the signs of Allah in the universe around us, and we can hear His words in the Qur’an. Let us not be like those who only believe when it is too late. Let us act now, while we still have the chance, and turn to our Lord with sincere repentance and righteous deeds. For Allah, in His infinite mercy, accepts the repentance of those who return to Him before the final hour arrives. Do not wait for the Day when heads are bowed and pleas are rejected—seize this precious moment of life, for it is the only opportunity you have.
