Translation — Tafsir
Word Meanings:
- Kafarū bihi – They disbelieved in it (the Qur'an and the Messenger ﷺ).
- Yaqdhifūna bil-ghayb – They hurl (words) about the unseen, i.e., they make claims and accusations about matters they have no knowledge of.
- Min makānin ba'īd – From a distant place, meaning far from the truth and correctness.
Explanation of the Verse:
This verse addresses the state of the disbelievers on the Day of Judgment, when they will desperately seek to return to the worldly life to believe and do good deeds. But how could their faith be accepted at that point, when they had already rejected the truth in this world? They had denied the Qur'an and the Messenger Muhammad (ﷺ) throughout their lives, and they used to hurl baseless accusations at him, calling him a sorcerer, a soothsayer, or a poet—claims that were utterly detached from reality. Their words were like arrows shot from a great distance, incapable of hitting their target, for they were speaking about the unseen and the truth from a place far removed from any sound knowledge or evidence. Just as an archer shooting from afar cannot strike a precise target, their conjectures could never reach the truth. This verse serves as a powerful reminder that faith is only accepted in the life of this world, when one has the free will to choose belief or disbelief. When death comes or the Hereafter begins, the door of repentance closes, and no amount of regret or pleading will avail.
A Call to Reflection:
Dear reader, this verse carries a profound lesson for all of us. It teaches us the immense value of the time we have now—this fleeting life is the only arena for faith and good deeds. Do not be like those who wasted their chance, hurling accusations and doubts at the truth without any basis, only to realize their loss when it was too late. Embrace the truth today, with a sincere heart, and let your faith be a light that guides your actions. The Qur'an is the clear truth, and the Messenger ﷺ is the perfect example—so hold fast to them before the day comes when no excuse or return will be accepted. Allah, in His infinite mercy, has opened the door of repentance for you right now—so walk through it, and you will find peace in this life and salvation in the next.
