Translation — Tafsir
Word Meanings:
- That (ذَٰلِكَ): Refers to the destruction of mankind and the creation of a new creation in their place.
- Upon Allah (عَلَى اللَّهِ): In relation to Allah’s power and will.
- Mighty/Difficult (عَزِيز): Here it means hard, impossible, or burdensome.
Explanation of the Verse:
This verse comes as a powerful reassurance following the previous verses, where Allah reminds humanity of their utter dependence on Him and His absolute independence from them. Allah states that replacing you with another creation—whether by destroying you entirely or bringing forth new beings in your stead—is not a difficult or weighty matter for Him at all. On the contrary, it is exceedingly easy and effortless for Him, for He is the All-Powerful Creator who merely says to a thing, "Be," and it is.
The verse strips away any illusion of human indispensability. No person, no nation, no generation is irreplaceable in Allah’s sight. If people turn away from their Lord, disobey His commands, or reject His messengers, Allah can simply remove them and bring forth a people who will love Him and be loved by Him—people who will worship Him sincerely and uphold His cause. This is not a threat born of need, but a declaration of divine self-sufficiency. Allah does not need our worship; rather, we are the ones in desperate need of His mercy and guidance.
A Call to Reflection and Action:
Dear reader, let this verse awaken your heart. You are not here by accident, nor are you indispensable. Your existence is a gift from Allah, and your purpose is to know Him, worship Him, and live in obedience to His guidance. Do not take His blessings for granted, and do not let pride or heedlessness make you forget that the One who gave you life can take it away in an instant and raise another in your place. Yet, in His infinite mercy, He has kept you alive, given you time, and opened the door of repentance for you. Seize this moment—turn to Him sincerely, mend your relationship with your Creator, and become among those whom He loves and honors. For the gates of His mercy are wide open, and He is ever ready to forgive those who return to Him with a sincere heart.
