Translation — Tafsir
Word Meanings:
- "Marqadina" (مَرْقَدِنَا): Our resting place, meaning the graves where they were sleeping.
- "Ya Waylana" (يَا وَيْلَنَا): An expression of intense regret and lamentation, meaning "Woe to us" or "Oh, our destruction."
Tafsir (Explanation):
On the Day of Resurrection, when the disbelievers who denied the resurrection are raised from their graves, they will cry out in utter shock and remorse: "Woe to us! Who has raised us from our resting place?" This is the outcry of those who never believed that life after death could occur. They are stunned, as if awakening from a long sleep, realizing that what they had mocked and rejected is now a reality before their very eyes.
The answer comes to them, either from the angels or from the believers, making the truth undeniable: "This is what the Most Merciful (Ar-Rahman) promised, and the messengers spoke the truth." In that moment, they are forced to acknowledge the truth they had denied throughout their worldly lives. Some scholars have noted that this second part of the verse may be the words of the believers responding to the disbelievers' question, or it may be the disbelievers themselves finally confessing, though such a confession comes too late to benefit them.
This scene carries a profound lesson for every human being. The resurrection is not a myth or a distant possibility—it is an absolute certainty that Allah, the Most Merciful, has promised, and His messengers, peace be upon them all, conveyed it truthfully. The disbelievers will admit this when admission no longer helps, when the time for repentance has passed.
Dear reader, do not wait until that moment of regret to believe. The Qur'an and the messengers have already told you the truth. The Most Merciful has opened the door of faith and repentance for you right now, in this life. Respond to His call before you hear that cry of "Woe to us" from your own lips. Embrace the truth now, while belief and good deeds can still change your destiny. For on that Day, every soul will see the reality of what the messengers conveyed—and the wise one is he who prepares for that Day before it arrives.
