Translation — Tafsir

Word Meanings:

  • الصِّرَاطَ الْمُسْتَقِيمَ (As-Sirāṭ al-Mustaqīm): The straight, clear path that has no deviation, crookedness, or error—the path that leads directly to Allah’s pleasure and Paradise.

Tafsir (Explanation):

In this noble verse, Allah speaks of His two great prophets, Musa (Moses) and Harun (Aaron), peace be upon them, and mentions a magnificent blessing He bestowed upon them: "And We guided them to the Straight Path." This means Allah directed them to the clear, unswerving way—the path of true faith and righteous deeds—which is the religion of Islam, the very religion Allah sent all His prophets with. It is the path that leads to Allah’s good pleasure, to His mercy, and to eternal success. This guidance was not merely knowledge in the mind, but a living reality in their hearts and actions, enabling them to call others to the truth with wisdom and patience.

This verse comes right after Allah mentions that He gave them the clear Scripture (the Torah) and guided them to this straight path, and then He preserved for them a beautiful remembrance among later generations—a legacy of honor and praise. The "Straight Path" here is not just any path; it is the path that has no crookedness, no contradictions, and no misguidance. It is the path of sincere worship of Allah alone, following His commandments, and avoiding what He has forbidden.

A Da‘wah Reflection for the Reader:

Dear reader, reflect on this immense blessing: the prophets of Allah were not left to wander in confusion, nor were they abandoned to their own devices. Allah Himself took their hands and guided them to the straight path. And the good news is that this same guidance is available to you and me! Allah has sent us the Qur’an and the Sunnah of His final Messenger, Muhammad (peace be upon him), as a clear light and a complete guide. Whoever sincerely seeks the truth, Allah will not let him remain in darkness. He promises in His Book: *"And those who strive for Us—We will surely guide them to Our ways"* (Al-‘Ankabut: 69). So open your heart to this divine call, and ask Allah to guide you to the same Straight Path He guided His prophets to. It is the path of true happiness in this life and the key to eternal bliss in the Hereafter. Will you not take that step today?
